I noticed at the track last weekend, the driver's rear pads were not making full contact until a few sessions. Upon removing them I see that they are wearing at a severe angle rather than parallel to the backing. Is the capiler bad?

most likely one of the brake cylinders is stuck so either rebuild the caliper if you want to save some money or just replace the caliper.

could be a stuck slide, but yeah its basically a bad caliper

if you are doing track days regularly with it..... just go ahead and get a decent big brake kit and be done with it. If you are just getting started, ask some of the other track guys, someone is sure to have a set of used calipers lying around.

Is there such a thing as brass caliper bushings for 1 gen RX7s. My brother runs a SpecRX7 in SCCA and we noticed that the rubber bushings were gone. I have brass ones in my Mini and was wondering if something similar is available for the RX7?

The 4 piston calipers on the FD along with the lightweight of the car are perfect for track days, big brakes are not needed if you maintain your brakes correctly.



I suggest rebuilding the calipers, and see if they are in good shape inside, then bleed the brakes with Motul 600 or something similar and put some good pads on it, your choice, I like Hawk Blues, but I am about to try out a set of PBR Ceramic pads.



Remember to bleed your brakes before every track event and if you feel ANY fade at all bleed again at the event.



Or you can drop $4K on a set of big brakes and still bleed before every event, your choice, my point is the factory brakes from Mazda are amazing and if maintained correctly work perfectly for track days.



I have the stock calipers, braided lines and Brembo Slotted Rotors on my RX7 and they have served me very well, I am putting out 400 to the wheels weight 2600 lbs and run with Ferrari's on the track. Never a issue with brakes.
