I was wondering what you all think of this. I have been recently having some electrical problems. My voltage starts out at 14v but then drops to around 12v and then oscillates between 14v and 11v. Do you all think this could be the altenator?

I currently am running two gel cells hook up in parallel in my FD and they are always fully charged.

Thanks

have you tried redoing the grounds on the car ?

Not yet....I wanted to look for the obvious before I started looking at circuits https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png Does anyone have an easy way to isolate some grounds?

my gslse will do that if i dont have a perfect connection on the battery

is there a good reason for having 2 batteries?

stereo maybe? for two batteries, you will definately need an isolator. if not, a dual out put alternator will work...

It used to be for shows (for the stereo) but now I am converting it to a street car so I am trying to make it a comfortable and fun ride https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

more info...the voltage seems to vary with RPM....normal speed around 14V but it dips down when idle. Voltage regulator problem?

r_xplicit 02-05-2003 08:13 PM

do you have a main underdrive pulley? mine does similar things, and with a good sized amp drawing....say.....20 amps of current or more will cause your fluctuating, as the alternator is not being spun or rotated enough for it to make a good charge....and yes, check the wiring on the voltage regulator. they can go bad often, especiall if it is a reman from somewhere...

My car does this but I have underdrive pulleys, even with a new alternator and battery. I am currently adding 2 guage wires all around and regrounding too, I'm going to see if that helps, those pulleys seem kinda pointless on the street. I might even take them off.
