I just bought my RX-7 2 months ago. I have not done anything to it yet. It came with exhaust, racing clutch, and a cooling system mod. So now before I do anything I want to ensure the car runs perfect. If anyone has anything to add to this please let me know. I got all my info from a lot of RX-7 pages. I read that you should relpace you stock radiator, change all your fluids, and relace specific sensors and filters. I am going to change my tranny fluid to synthetic along with the rear end. I am also going to change my motor oil but I am not sure if I am gonna go synthetic on that. Thats where i will start and then move on to the othere things. Do me a favor and add things to this so I can learn along with all the other guys and galls out there new to this kick ass car. wee need to take care of these cars and I intend to baby my car. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

compression check...

vosko 02-05-2003 04:45 PM

your in cali take it to your local rx7 specialist..... there are a bunch!

r_xplicit 02-05-2003 04:50 PM

a down-pipe is a great item to add to the list, and doesn't add too much to the bill. they repplace the stock precat which is heavy, cumbersome, and known culprit for retaining engine bay heat..

closely to the top of the list, should you choose to keep modding your fd, you should purchase an ecu upgrade and some form of boost control...

these should all fall after you get a compression check, silicone vacuum hose upgrade, and new radiator hoses, if they have not been done already....

there is such a long list.....

try this sit too, unless you have already been there and someone has given it already....

rob robinette's page

that site has sooooo much info on it, it would take you months to get acquainted with it... :bigok:

i would start by changing all of the fluids. and while you are doing that loook everything over, are there oil leaks? coolant leaks? belts? hoses? is the suspension loose? how are the brake pads? tires? you want to see what you are dealing with. after that you probably will have some stuff that you will want to fix, you should also think about an alignment, i like to pull the seats out clean the piss out of the interior.

How do I go about a compression check?

r_xplicit 02-05-2003 07:41 PM

take it to the dealer.

1.yea a down pipe is a great first thing to do but get after market boost conrtoller if you do.

2.digital or analog water temp the stock one sucks my ballz

3.After maket radiator

4. lot of peopel wouls say knock sensor but a M2 or petter ferrel intercooler

will make it so that it not an issue at stock boost and you get a few hp

5.fuel filter change a lot of people over look it

I would say 2 and 3 are a must.

p.s. if you get an intake system don't just get a filter for 50-150 but get a whole system for 350-500 you want cool air not air that has gone through you radiator.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif its all about fuel and temp control with the third gen.

r_xplicit 02-10-2003 08:27 PM

the first thing that you should ACTUALLY do, is get head in it, unless you are a girl, and then you would just need to get **taken out to eat**

Um... I would stay at the stock boost levels... At least until you have an IC and fuel to support more.

Not worth popping a motor.

I heard or read somewhere that synthetic oil is not a good choice for rotary engines because it does not burn off as well as standard oil and needs to be able to. Does anyone else have information on this mystery?

Danno 02-12-2003 12:07 PM

Thanks for the info. I think I will stay with the regular oil until I find the out for sure. Somone said that 20/50W is good to use on My 3rd gen. where the wrong or is that what I should use?

RotaryDragon7 02-12-2003 12:42 PM

I use Mobil1 10W-30 in my TII. A while back I did a little investigation on this because I wanted to use RedLine synthetic oil in mine but found out it was not a good idea. Mobil1 seemed to be near the top of all stats that I read online. To my knowledge, 20W-50 is a heavy oil for high heat or race applications but I can't say they were wrong. :yinyang:

Yes. Synthetic oil is FINE for rotarys. Every friggin shop recommends it... I don't know who the hell keeps passing along this goofy ass info. Get synth. Use it. Love it.

I use Mobil 1 synth and I'd be more than happy to take pictures of my guts when rebuild time comes.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Danno 02-12-2003 02:38 PM

Cool, so synthetic is definately the better choice then?
