i just recently bought a 93 fd with 19k on new motor and turbos with a little engine work. i am running a re-amemiya filter, resized wastegate orifice, bonez dp, n-tech cat, and hks cat-back. i also have a safc II with apexi turbo timer. i just got it and school takes all my money so i havent been able to buy my a.s.t. or boost guage yet, but my safc has a boost guage built in and says i am running 1.04 bar of boost at redline. i am afraid i may be running lean and plan to get the car dynoed with wideband o2 soon. i look at my exhaust and i have black deposit in the pipes which i thought is rich condition?? as far as i know i have the stock fuel injectors/pump. also i had a compression test done and was 150-147 across the board. please help because i worry everytime i think about it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

p.s. my previous car was stolen(94 prelude w/ everything but turbo), so i opted to get a "real car" for its replacement, and i am extremely satisfied with my fd. now i know what a sports car is. also i bought this car with almost everything on it so dont blame me for the order of upgrades.

You are right! You should be concerned with a lean condition!

Unfortunately, you might be disheartened to learn that you have a single solution - A boost-controlling fuel computer, or a standalone boost controller, i.e. Greddy ProfecB. The SAFC doesn't have boost control capabilities, and you are definetly overboosting.

HOWEVER, your saving grace is that the car DOES have the SAFC! The SAFC is a simple fuel controller, and although it does manipulate fuel maps, I have no experience that would allow me to trust the unit.

15Lbs of boost is marginally safe, providing you have a fuel controller and a fuel pump, at least..

The biggest problem I can see with your current setup is that the stock intercooler cannot sufficiently reduce intake temperatures for 15 lbs. You're pumping a lot of hot air into that motor. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I forgot - Your Apex'i Turbo Timer has a built in AFR meter, while not perfectly accurate, will give you a good idea of rich or lean conditions. If the timer was installed correctly, a flick of the toggle should provide you a general AFR.. As long as it's 12.0 or lower, you should be just fine. Did the car pass emmissions?

the car had emissions done in mass. and failed, i dont have the paper work in front of me so i cant give you numbers but i know it failed. i am also familiar with the safc and bumped my maps up 5% after 2500 just for now. i just hope it is enough till the dyno. thanks sin

Sounds to me like it's running fine. IF i had to guess, I'd say that you're okay for now, but plan on saving those $$$ for some major upgrades (boost controller, fuel pump, intercooler).. I think the question at the front of my mind is not will it work, but how long will it work for?

How about running the same setup with the IC and fuel pump upgrade but with the stock injectors? Would that be a problem.

That's a good point - and if you ask me, I'd do it. But then again, my engine seems to be pretty tolerant. I'd just be really cautious that the injectors were really clean, and the fuel filters were new!

dont keep pushing your motor..... you'll end up like me and my blown motor
