Can anyone explain why on a cold day when the temp. falls below freezing, that the Add Coolant alert comes on for about 5-7 minutes, then turns off when the car is warm.

When the temp. is above freezing, maybe around 40 degree plus, this does not occur or if it does, it only beeps for about a minute.

The radiator has enough anti-freeze and water mixture and according to the stock temp. gauge, it is not overheating or even close to running hot.

Can someone please advise.

thanks.

hrmmm..thats wizzeird.my add coolant buzzer goes off if i drive in the rain....GOD DAMN THE RAIN!!!!!!!

It shouldn't beep. Make sure you have coolant all the way up to the top in the filler neck.

vosko 01-21-2003 11:21 PM

you don't have enough coolant in the engine add it to the filler neck. leave the cap off until the car warms up and keep adding till its to the top and warmed up. you should have the buzzer anymore

isnt the stock gauge how u say...USELESS???

if it is full and cant figure out the problem... you can ground out the brown w/white stripe wire in the one connector near/above the battery. there are 5 conections along the way that need to be made to ground the signal. coolant acts as the ground and if the sensor is not touching the coolant, it will beep. there are 2 grey plugs there, the one on the right has this wire. i believe it is the third one down all the way on the right of the right plug.

the reason it says that the temp is nowhere close to overheating is because there is not enough coolant to reach the sensor where the temp is measured. if there isn't enough coolant to reach the sensor then the guage is useless, so be sure not to ignore it. you might want to check for coolant leak, AST maybe.

YOucan check the usual suspects, radiator hoses,AST,Coolant level sensor, radiator.

Keep a close eye on it. If you start getting white smoke at start up let us know..

mine goes off too

LannyRX7 02-26-2003 10:00 PM

What's the deal with white smoke at start up? Mine does it for about 30 secs. and then stops but that damn add coolant sensor goes off in mine too. And the coolant is topped off.
