it depends repu if you want to go by the popular idea that the name "Jeep" came from the little critter in the "thimble theater" comics (with popeye as one of the characters) then yes i know that one.

However there are a few more beliefs:

1) GP, or general purpose, say the two letters blended and you get "jeep"

2) Jeep was a term mechanics gave any new vehicle they tested

However the reason that the popeye character is the best believed reason for the name is because technically the Jeep is not "General Purpose" it's only intended purpose originally was recon. People then say "well Ford used GP in the serial designation when they took over production of the jeep from willys, who bought it from bantam." Well in the Ford designation "G" stood for government and "P" was used to show it is an 80-inch wheelbase.

As for the iot being the term mechanics used for all new vehicles, it was never recorded in writings or anything so peopole doubt it.

Although nowadays people outside of america call pretty much anything off-road capable a jeep. I've heard Nissans, Toyotas, just about everything be called a "Jeep".

So that's your lesson for today, come back now ya here.

told you, i know EVERYTHING about jeeps.

Now here's your question:

Was a V6 ever available in a civilian jeep before they began introducing things like the wagoneer etc? If so who manufactured it?

oh and another one.... What was the name of the first non-truck jeep vehicle? (this one is easy)

W3rd. I didn't have any particular inspiration cars actually. Just been loving the 7's for ages and thought we needed one for GTA3. It does look pretty in blue, doesn't it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

well the V6 was available in some later model CJ's, the engine was made by Buick and was named the Buick Dauntless V6, it's the only V6 ever available in the CJ,YJ,TJ etc family of Jeeps, of course most of the other Jeep models have received a V6 for a point in time.

The V6 question has tripped up most "Jeep experts" i've ever met on jeep trips or online etc....probably one of the hardest questions out there.

the only other good one i can thinhk of is about how the CJ had a PTO like a farm tractor...there's a couple questions surrounding that that can trip people up https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
