ok say you have a stock fd.

you put intake, dp, mp, cb all on the car.

now this isn't reccommended without an ecu upgrade right? Is the ecu added on to prevent boost creep, if so would a manual boost controller be able to achieve the same thing as a temp. fix? Or should a MP be held off until an ecu is bought and installed?

my friend used a mbc and a restrictor plate in the exhaust to run 10psi, and he's got all the bolt ons

On some cars, those mods are safe with a MBC.... On some cars you'll pop. I think it's risky though....

I always used "My THIRD mod IS the ECU". Just to be safe... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

my cars doin fine with Intake/Downpipe/Exhaust https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif no problems whatsoever.. 10-8-10 boost pattern https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I dont believe in the 3 mod rule.

Since I ran with a Intake/catback/downpipe/IC for months with no problems. I had other **** aswell like the removed smogpump.

capped egr etc..

It most likely will only get to lean when you add a midpipe.

teknics 04-25-2003 01:33 PM

yea thats why i asked because of the whole midpipe thing.

but does it only get lean when boost creeps past 10psi or does it get lean even at 10psi?

j9fd3s 04-25-2003 02:32 PM

it gets lean over 10psi

those are the mods i am running i do not run lean

and it seems fine

but i am looking to get the power fc

seems just like a wize and safe thing to do

Fd3BOOST 04-25-2003 05:39 PM

The mix will be lean with modifications on the car.

I am only implying that in my case I didnt not go so lean as to cause damage to the engine.

If you buy a midpipe DO NOT INSTALL IT WITHOUT SOME TYPE OF FUEL CONTROL BECAUSE YOU WILL BLOW YOUR MOTOR WITHOUT THE PROPER FUEL ADJUSTMENTS..

rxplicit2 04-26-2003 04:49 PM

everyone on here should know that i am definately NOT a believer in the "3 MOD MYTH" yeah, it gets a little risky, and yeah, the car will run slightly leaner, but if you can control it, and not over do it, you will be fine. i have been running on the stock ecu for over 2 years, and have just about every bolt on mod that can be had. get a good boost controler, and be done. the MBC are suspect to fluctuation during sporadic and inclimate weather changes.....

so no, you do not need an ecu, but i would STRONGLY suggest a good boost controller...
