Hello everyone, first off this is a great forum..thanks everyone for all the usefull information that can be found here.

I have just bought a FD3S 1996 twin turbo rx7 so far im loving it. - it's manual obviously

It is mostly stock with the exception of a few mods..it has an aftermarket intercooler, twin apexi air filters, 3" exhaust system and hks adjustable coilovers.

It also has a RE-Amemeia boost gauge that is molded above the steering wheel, that the guy i got it off seemed to think came standard on that version? It also has twin oil coolers.

It has black front seats (not leather) and blue leather back seats(if you call them seats haha, more like beer box holders..)

It is white with a black roof, full body kit and sits on 18" rims ( will get some photos soon )

it has done just over 100k km's and has been rebuilt within the last 10000km's..(reciepts included)

anyway im having trouble figuring out what model rx7 i have..i know it would usually say on the sticker inside the door but it dosent say any model as in R or R1 or RS or whatever...it JUST says special edition?

this may be a stupid question but does this mean mine is "special edition"? The reason i ask is because i have seen a picture of a sticker on the net somewhere that said "RS or whatever"-special edition or similar?? like i said mine ONLY says special edition..

thanks for your help guys..

You can call mazda. The car is new enough that there will be a record of it. It would be nice to know the full spec of the car. In 1996 I know there were EXTREMELY few rx-7 made. This maybe one of those or an imported one from canada. Nice find though, good job!

It is deffintly a JDM model, was imported from japan mid last year. I looked into what my vin number ment and it basically ment it was manufactued in japan in 1996 destined for the JDM market..

It has twin apexi oil coolers so am unsure if it came standard with one or two, the guy i got it off thought it was an RS model so i think it proberbly came standard with two..

my car also has very large black mazda front bakes, do all FD rx7's have these?

also out of curiosity what is the base model called on the white "vehicle information" sticker in the door?

thanks, will post pics when i can..as luck would have it i took a big chunk out of one of my wheels..so its away getting fixed..

i think the cool one for 96 was the RZ? it was the first to get the recaro seats, and bbs wheels, but all that stuff's been changed on yours?

How about forgoing the list of stuff put on the car and talk about the car. If those are "apexi" oil coolers, they're not original. If you have a two-tone paint scheme, that's not original either. Neither is the boost gauge on the column, or the "full body kit" etc.

If you can tell, what was the ORIGINAL color?

Does it have a sunroof?

Rear window wiper?

What type of cloth seats...faux suede or a herring-bone type pattern?

Fog lights?

Cruise control?

As far as I know, there is no sticker that will designate the model. IIRC there is a designation within the VIN for North American cars, but your VIN will be much different.

You could try a translator and check this sight for info.......

He has allready answered some of your questions.

There is no sun roof

He is unsure if there were stock dual oil coolers

Good question about the seats, fogs, rear wiper, and Cruise,

To clarify my comments, the previous owner thought the column mounted RE boost gauge was standard....it isn't. My point was that the aftermarket oil coolers weren't either. It's conceivable that someone removed factory dual oil coolers and replaced them with aftermaket dual oil coolers, but not as likely. The odds suggest that there was probably only one cooler to begin with.

thanks for the replies guys,

thats right, it has no sunroof. The factory colour of the car is Chaste White (found that on the vechile info sticker)

It does have a rear window wiper and fog lights.

as far as cruise control goes, im not at home right now to check but i dont think it has cruise control...

Where would i find the cruise control if it did have it??

The front seats are black suede , the back are blue leather.

I just got why wheel back from being repaired so i should be able to post some photos tommorow!
