I'm going to rebuild my engine this winter. It has a blown coolant seal and has overheated (i bought it knowing this). I've seen guys hold down a gallon of milk longer than my car holds coolant. I'm leaning towards a kit from Atkins Rotary Store.

This is the most complete kit I've seen, I figure I'll replace all I can. I have the complete electrical and mechanical manuals from Mazda, plus Atkins sells instruction dvds. I don't want to do a half-a$$ job. Has anyone used this/them, or know of a better kit? I'm in germany, shipping an engine is more than i want to pay. I want the experiance too.

Thanks in advance.

i havent rebuilt mine yet but I do have a solution for you if your interested, I have a rebuilt fd 13B motor that is stock rebuilt under 30K ago, and that has been cryo froze? if your interested if not I hear good thinks from Atkins rebuild kits for our rotary's. I am going to buy a rebuild kit and just throw it in my shop just incase I ever need it... a lil here and there is a lot better than a big chunk later on from my experiance unless your filty rich then it doesnt matter... let me know if your interested in just swapping your motor out for mine?? it wont be much more expensive, plus no rebuild work and its cryofroze just whatever ya want to do...

Are you talking about a block swap or the whole engine? Where are you located?

teamrj83 09-14-2006 02:44 PM

if your refering to my post im in davenport iowa, and im talking about the block swap actually but I do have the manifolds turbos exe to make it a complete motor minus the wiring if needed, but I was mainly refering to the block swap.

Fair enough. I'll look into shipping prices etc and think about it. I appriciate the offer for sure. So no known problems with the engine? Good compression, no leaks?

no problems that im aware of. I pulled the motor out of an FD that I purchased off a friend after he totalled it, I stripped the car of all useable parts and junked the car a while back since the car was seriously gone!! it was sad, but I know he had it rebuild and froze and the whole ball o wax and its been sitting in my storage shed for a while now.. car ran beautiful when it was together.... I thought about putting it in my car but mine runs soo good I dont want to jack with it and make it mad at me right now... Maybe Xmas time when I have more money lol... But nope thats why I have so many spare parts for a FD... except for the radio brakets which I need ha ha... go figure tho! well my zip is 52806 if you need that to figure shipping costs... if ya want it great, if not no biggy I just figured it save you a lil cash and headache of rebuilding one... but then again if ya rebuild one its experiance on further understanding how these babys work... plus you can troubleshoot a lil easier!! Just a thought...

My advice... If your engine blew because of coolant failure, make sure to get your irons lapped before re-assembling. Also, take your time spec'ing the parts before assembly. And clean the parts well!!!
