Ok I have a question before I put my car up and start changing the oil I went out and bought a case of the oil I need and the oil filter. Now the other cars I've changed oil on have sometimes needed what's called a crush washer to put on the filter before putting the new filter on the car. Do I need anything like that or after I drain my oil do I just put switch filters. Please let me know I'm planning on doing this this weekend. thanks

I just put the new filter on. No washer for the filter.
You do need one for the drain plug... |
Make sure you put a little oil around the rim of the filter
|
yup

9956-21-400 is the number for the crush washer

thanks guys just wanted to make sure I needed one for my pos Honda a couple months back and didn't know it until I already had my oil drained and filter taken off and unfortunately those crush washers are one time use only.
|
the mazda one you can use 2-3 times, hondas are picky about the drain plug washers

Thanks Mike. I'll prolly head over to the dealership and just pick up a bunch of those. Yeah Honda is really picky about many things oh well

ok, I'm more of a 2nd gen guy myself, but I just happened to see this
I got one of those valves you screw in, and attach a hose (with valve actuator) to drain the oil. That way, I never have to get a new crush washer, and it's easier to change the oil. Has anyone experienced problems with these? I haven't had leaks. |

Alright, alright, I'm just kiddin'
I always wondered about those valves Baldy https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png They seem like a good idea. Tom |
I just hate getting under there, draining it, then realizing I forgot the damn washer
|
Yep,
It's a pain getting under there anyway because they're so low. I think I'm gonna put a lift kit on mine so I can change the oil in like seconds https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
ok so i went to Mazda over my lunch and figured I'd pick up a couple of those crush washers.... Damn was I ever surprised to find out they cost me 5 bucks a piece. Oh well whatever. Just thought I'd share with everyone how much they were and not to expect to pay like 75 cents to $1 like with some other cars https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

about those valves, anyone have a pic? ever have any problem with them hitting anything?

just take the drain plug to a hardware store and i'm sure you could find the right size crush washer to fit around it, for pretty damn cheap.
|
if you do get the valve thing, don't screw it in to far and strip it...I just found a puddle underneath my car
