Well, lately the FD has been running a little funny.

First of all, it's running a PFS Purple box with a Profec. Tuned REAL rich (11:1 afr @ 12 lbs @ sea level, I'm at 5200 ft.) So I think the plugs are getting used and abused. The 3k hesitation is there, but that I'm feeling is more of a miss at all RPM, crusing speed. What I noticed is that when I'm really on the throttle, it screams, but when I'm at one RPM, or with light-throttle application, I'm getting a bit of hesitation. This happened all of a sudden, so I assume it's from the plugs going bad. It hasn't gotten any worse, and my AFR's still peg out 10:1 on the narrow-band meter. Between my walbro pump, the reman engine and the PFS box, I doubt it's fuel.

Does this sound like a plug problem? The last time they were replaced was nearly 20,000 miles ago.

Fd3BOOST 04-14-2005 12:05 PM

In the time that you spent typing that you could have just changed the plugs and found out if it helped. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

haha! Yeah, I'm bored at work.

TYSON 04-14-2005 12:11 PM

Bah, I clicked on this thinking he was shopping for hair implants..........

Sinful7 04-14-2005 12:12 PM

Thanks for the help fuckers. Can someone at least point me to a source for plugs? Also are those HKS iridium deals any good?

TYSON 04-14-2005 12:15 PM

Stop at a dealership on the way home. Your problem is likely more about fouling the plugs over time, so why pay extra?

Sinful7 04-14-2005 12:30 PM

Stealership! Ugh! What about NGK's from Vato-zone?

TYSON 04-14-2005 12:34 PM

I've never found anyone other than the dealer that stocked rotary plugs. Maybe it's different in your area.

I did have a shop order me in plugs, had to buy ten and they all had to be the same. Price per plug ended up being about the same.

Sinful7 04-14-2005 12:43 PM

Dizzo'h!

Sinful7 04-14-2005 12:47 PM

I called my local Advance Auto parts and they have 14 NGK trailings and 10 NGK leadings in stock at $5.48 ea.

GreyGT-C 04-14-2005 12:48 PM

Steve-- contact me on AIM...about your plug issue.

RussellTT94 04-14-2005 12:51 PM

Auto zone doesn't stock NGK's. Advance auto should have the plugs you need in stock though.

Fd3BOOST 04-14-2005 01:47 PM

Napa stocks the NGK BRQ7's and BRQ9's. I buy the 9's by the box.

Dramon_Killer 04-14-2005 01:51 PM

oreilleys has them too.

JBs93FD 04-14-2005 01:51 PM

**** advanced go to napa , ngks have run with no problems

How about no, ok? What's the difference between Advance's NGK's and NAPA's NGK's? The advance is 40 yards from my house, whereas the NAPA is 4,000.

Yea plugs are plug, who gives a rats ass where there are so long as they are close.

nopistons94 04-14-2005 03:17 PM

none of the stores in my area or the dealerships carry NGK plugs for the rotary. I had to order them from sparkplugs.com for the past 3 plug sets. BTW sparkplugs.com is a very respectable site

Signal 2 04-14-2005 07:19 PM

Just to confirm, I just bought a set of NGK platinum 9s from ADVANCED AUTO but they didn't have all four in stock. I had to wait two days for them to get in.

j9fd3s 04-14-2005 10:39 PM

ive been running the rx8 plugs in my gsl-se, they seem to be smoother, the car seems to run better

nopistons94 04-14-2005 11:07 PM

what are the rx8 plugs ? 9s

rfreeman27 04-15-2005 11:17 PM

I get mine from advanced auto, they always have 9's in stock.

BTW when you go to the store, make sure they are the zinc colored ones. They are the more expensive of the two part numbers that they will pull up. They are better then the silver ones.

btw it isnt hard to pull a plug and see if they are fouled https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

GreyGT-C 04-15-2005 11:21 PM

rx8's have 6, 7, and 9. different plug design than the fc/fd stuff, the rx8 plugs look like race plugs, but come in a "normal" heat range

twinturborx7pete 04-17-2005 06:23 PM

Buy the NGK 9s.. non platinum. For all 4.

What i run.. better heat range, not as expensive.. platinum is worthless on our cars. Fouls easier.

Sinful7 04-18-2005 11:18 AM

Four NGK 9's non-platinum are what I ended up buying. The plugs I removed were not fouled, but were pretty beat up. The electrode surface was about 1/3 black and 2/3 tan, so it looks like she's running pretty well. The side electrodes were eroded slightly, especially on the #2 trailing. After I installed the new plugs, she starts easier and the idle after startup smooths out and quiets down way faster.. inside of 5 minutes, as opposed to 10+ on the old plugs.

Lionheart240 01-16-2006 10:27 PM

With my setup being near-stock, I prefer to run stock 7's and 9's as the car was made to run.

Non-seq, down-pipe, catback, intakes...

Not near enough to make it necesary to run all 9's.
