figured id document this round of filter swap

youll need to jack up the car and will only need the followin..

needle nose.. 3/8 ratchet with 10mm socket and extension..angle pliers

eye shield is an option but not necessary..

as long as your careful enough.. ya can complete this swap dry..

..and new filter of course..

amp 04-06-2005 08:13 PM

remove the negative battery cable..

relieve pressure from removing the gas cap..

remove the 2 shields for easier access

amp 04-06-2005 08:17 PM

remove the clamp with a needle nose...

do so with yourself bein on the driver side avoiding being splattered...

as you pull the hose... curve it up..

amp 04-06-2005 08:20 PM

remove the (2) 10mm bolts that holds the filter bracket

amp 04-06-2005 08:26 PM

once removed..make sure you dont pull out the rubber grommets..

move the assembly a bit closer to use the angled pliers...

notice the orientation of the pliers to get to the clamp...

btw.. while pullin..put one finger to cap off the end of the filter..

again to avoid bein splattered...

amp 04-06-2005 08:30 PM

remove the bracket off the filter.. (1) 10mm

pay close attention to the orientation and the raised portion..

its a guide for your bracket...

amp 04-06-2005 08:32 PM

no need for dishwashing liquid to slide the hoses into the new filter...

dont over torque the bracket btw..

hope this helps..

have fun..

Good write up Jio, you may also want to consider relocating the filter while you're at it... will make it a lot easier to do next time around.

amp 04-07-2005 08:05 AM

fikse.. come one down

grey.... done it enough times from havin had the four fds that its no longer a hassle...

One fuel filter clogged somehow after 15k miles. It's one of the easiest things to change to troubleshoot running lean or dropping pressure.

thats exactly what prompted me to replace the filter, i was all of a sudden dropping fuel pressure from 50psi now im getting 40psi, and when the car warms up its worse.

i have a feeling that premixing puts extra stress on the filter.

well jio, i got my pump in on saturday, im gunna attempt to do it this coming weekend, if im not successful you will hear from me https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Is it necessary to change the filter (strainer) thats in the gas tank that filters before the fuel is sucked in by the fuel pump?

I replaced mine, it was pretty cheap but I suspect cleaning the original one would work just as well. I had a situation where the fuel would cut out with a low fuel tank (and not "spirited" javascript:emoticon(':drive:') driving), I suspect the strainer was collapsing or somehow sucking in air.

Shane.Trammell 05-26-2005 02:55 PM

how difficult will this be for someone who has never done it?

Shane.Trammell 05-27-2005 11:48 AM

got at this last night and its definitely not fun. wasnt able to get through bc the hoses wouldnt come off of the filter without cutting them. it was about midnight so walmart was the only place open, and they dont carry fi hose. we're gonna try to finish it tonight.

we're going to be relocating the filter to the subframe, like ihor said to do in his faq thread. that will make it a breeze to change next time.

Also there is another spot under the infront of left rear tire I custom made a bracket and there is already 2 10mm hole for mazda bolt small and I mount mine there,I like this spot because filter is not expose to outside derbis and the lines are under the a cover.

Khris

btw is the first picture amp post that the tray I removed and mount the filter up there.
