If so I was just wondering how you dealt with the rack. Leave fluid in and plug the ports, drain fluid and plug ports, run a hose between the 2 ports. Just want some ideas as to what method you used, so I can decide which way I'm going to do it

Leaving fluid in there and plugging the holes works well.

That would be ideal, but there never was a manual rack for FD's, at least none that I ever heard of. I believe that you have to work something out if you want to keep your A/C.

Dont Be A Rikki in the other forum has done this. If you need to know something Im sure he could help.

done which...

remove PS then plug...or...found a manual steering rack ?

id prefer the latter as i have concerns...

Fe3Boost 09-03-2002 07:38 AM

I kept the rack. I looped the P/S rubber lines and looped the hard pipe line above itselft. Works real nice and is a little easire on the wheel this way. I just removed the belt at first and like it but doing the real conversion makes it a little easier.

-Rikki

how do you plan on maintaining it......

Fe3Boost 09-03-2002 01:00 PM

It is now self contained. There is no maintaining what so ever.

-Rikki

Or do I misunderstand you?

jspecracer7 09-03-2002 01:06 PM

I removed my P/S and just looped the lines together with some steel braided hose.

I've looked into getting a manual rack for my FD. It looks like a manual rack from an FC will work. The only thing that will need to get modified is the rack MOUNTS since they're different on the FD. Won't be too hard though...nothing like a welder and grinder to fix stuff https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

you may have to use the steering shaft from the fc too. i know a few people have looked into this but nobody has actually done it yet

I really dont think that you have to do this. I would assume it to be a waste of time.

Rikki

Im concerned as it wasnt meant to be a self contained system...

not sure if just plugging up the ports will do the trick as i would assume

that certain areas that requires lubrication wouldnt be without the pump circulating it...

im afraid of losin a seal or .....

fear is longevity

btw

how long have you had to do without the ps ?

Fe3Boost 09-04-2002 09:03 AM

Well myself have had it done for about 3 months and my freind brian did it over a year ago and we both have no problems. You will be fine trust me.

I bet he feels EVERY bump in the road. I could tell the difference going from 215 to 235... :(

P'cola FD 09-23-2002 11:03 PM

Is anyone running the A/C without the power steering? I know Gordon Monsen is. He said he is using a modified TII bracket, but never sent me the pictures of it. I was just wondering how one would set that up.

amp 02-02-2003 10:14 PM

certainly looks like ill be retaining the ps...

as she will still see autox events...

there is still the concern of snappin the quill shaft with the loop mod...

and fc rack swap havin a different ratio.....

i may just modify the mounting bracket to eliminate or shave off the ac portion....
