I decided to change out my front brake rotors beofore the Rotary Revolution. I am participating on the Road course on sunday and wanted to make sure the brakes are 100%.

Upon close inspection of the front rotors after they were pulled you can see little hairline cracks on them. They were getting ready to let loose.

Man! That could have been really bad.

Pics soon...

I decided to get Powerslot Front Rotors and I put on my Hawk HP Plus Pads. I use Hawk HPS for the street and Autocrossing. I have these HP Plus pads for Track events.

I would have never expected my rotors to be cracked with 60K miles on them.

FikseRxSeven 04-14-2004 08:26 PM

well... when you drive the way you do..... something is boud to happen right?

phinsup 04-14-2004 08:29 PM

Damn! Was gonna say I got the powerslots sitting here front of me if you ned them, but sounds like you got the hookup.

I have 4 sets of thenew slotted/dimpled on backorder, I don't think they actually make them been waiting for a month or so LOL

Jims

You use the Hawk pads that the nopiston store sells right?

phinsup 04-14-2004 08:51 PM

We sell Hawk/Powerslot (same company) and Endless now if you really want to go all out.

rowtareh 04-14-2004 08:54 PM

Endless? Oh the brake pads for like 250 bucks??

phinsup 04-14-2004 09:03 PM

Yea, $225 in the store, seems like a lot for brakes to me, but what the hell.

turbo2fc90 04-14-2004 09:23 PM

Are you going to be driving on the street with those Hawk brake pads? If you are have fun with the obnoxiosly loud squeaking they produce....Damn ceramic brake pads https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png

phinsup 04-14-2004 09:25 PM

I dunno about the HP Plus's, my dad has the carbon ferro's on his and they have been great.

ive seen that on an fd with 50k easy miles. those cross drilled rotors just do that.

i also know a guy who is so hard on the brakes that he wore thru the rotors in a weekend! they were littereally down to the vents!

phinsup 04-14-2004 09:56 PM

I've always preferred the slotted over the crossdrilled, guess I have a reason now LOL

j9fd3s 04-14-2004 09:58 PM

yep coss drilled obsolete

Cheers! 04-14-2004 10:43 PM

Jim, weren't u using stock OEM rotors?

racerxtreme7 04-14-2004 10:47 PM

ish i just got myself a set of brembo cross drilld slotted rotors. hope they dont crack on me too fast

NCTII87 04-15-2004 12:16 AM

do y'all feel a difference with the rotors? i felt a small one with my last ride. just wondering if it was maye just in my head or if they really make a lot of difference stopping.

phinsup 04-15-2004 12:20 AM

I don't know on the RX-7, I haven't went that route yet (too poor), but we put the powerslots on my dad's truck and it was like driving a whole new rig, his brakes sucked before.

As far as I know (being the second owner of the car and buying it with 50K miles on it) these were the factory rotors on the car.

I have always contended the stock brakes on an FC, when maintained correctly, are amazing. I have never had an issue with my brakes. I just decided to swap out my Rotors for some new ones as a precautionary measure. I dicovered after the fact that the old rotors were cracked. I was planning on hanging on to them as back ups.

I agree, if you buy cross drilled rotors you are asking for trouble. And if you say yeah?! but they use them on race cars! Good for race teams they can afford to replace them after every race. I dont have that kind of budget so I will go with these slotted rotors and wtch them closely. I still like the OEM rotors. But I'll give these a shot.

BTW- Phins I forgot you carried them. I just called Tire rack in a panic.

FCmaniac 04-15-2004 06:52 AM

I have the HP Plus and my OEM replacement rotors aren't cracked yet. I only have a few autocrosses on these pads though... a road course I'd think would really test the rotors more than a one minute autocross run.

Cosmo Donk 04-15-2004 10:02 AM

Word, my cross drilled that came on the car were cracked, and had some bad waves in the face because of the drilling. I will never buy cross drilled again, well actually I will never BUY cross drilled because I guess I never did in the first place:)

Right now I run Powerslot Rotors up front with Hawk HPS+ and they work great, although I am not the road course driver you are:) They love to squeak at MEDIUM temps but are okay when cold and hot:)
