I'm hoping within two weeks my upgraded turbo will be here!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png can't wait to put my car back together and drive around all slow like waiting for the motor to be broken in completely https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

umm..... you don't have to break in a turbo...........

Jerk_Racer 01-03-2003 09:00 PM

Are you serious? Bryan of BNR told me that I had to break mine in (one of these days or weeks or months I'll put it in). He's been doing turbos for many years before he got into RX7's. They need a break-in period. Well at least this is pretty much what I've always have heard before. Just going easy on them for the first 500 miles or so is what I've heard. Even if this is false, I'll take it easy for a while when I slap mine on.

Everyday is a learning day I guess. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

Vosko.. but you do if you're putting a new motor in at the same time https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

so no matter what i'll be broken in easily due to the motor needing a few thou on it

*edit* i don't know if you have to break it in.. but you need to prime the system before you run the car like crank it with out the EGI (that right?) fuse in so you don't start but get oil circulating into the turbo to begin with.

well you didn't mention the new motor part.... LOL..... my turbo was not broken in.... got on boost with it. even my engine we got on boost with it with no ill effects. 150psi compression on both rotors and runs like a top https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

my theory on breaking in stuff..... is you are just delaying when something is gonna break. if its gonna break its gonna break regardless of how if you drove it 500 miles or 5miles. just my humble opinion https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I've heard different ways about how you properly break in a motor. Some say break a motor in the way you're going to drive. Others are talking about how you're suppose to baby the motor so everything will seat fine.

I see your point on being.. if the motor runs at 4k rpms for an hour that's 240 revolutions.. you wouldn't be expecting things to be all hopp'n around inside your motor after just a few hours of driving normally https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png oh well i'll probbaly give mine the wussy foot for awhile. gives me time to save for dyno time haha

If you want to break in a motor like a man, do it on the dyno, break in period stated in mazdaspeed catalog for a new rotary w/new bearings and w/out.

W/old bearings its like 30mins of 2k, 30minuts of 4k, 1hour 6, 1hour 7k like that, check it out if you happen to have it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I have the 1997 vers.

I think mazdaspeed knows best https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif , but that is just my humble opinion https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I still don't understand how you can get 150 PSI on 9.0 rotors.
