a little while after i got my car it started not idle'ing, i cant pinpoint what time exactly. ive been looking for hoses that arent connected but i cant find any. when i start the car it will run great as long as i have my foot on the pedal.. as soon as i take it off the rpms just drop and die. i could diagnose a rough idle with the FSM but i cant even get it to idle. where do i start? ive adjusted the TPS.. it is correctly adjusted. before it just stopped idleing at all, it would idle hunt.. up and down up and down. i assumed it was a vacuum leak. i have a FMIC and my afm is in front of the FMIC.. between the FMIC and the TB, so it wont matter if theirs a leak inthe TID. id just like to know some diagnosing procedure besides looking for air leaks. thanks guys

If it's an 87 88 make sure the AFM is level, otherwise it has problems functioning. Adjust the idle up with the idle adjust screw on the tb. Don't turn it a lot, but turn a quarter turn to the right, and then keep going until you can get her to idle. What was she idling at beforehand? Buy some starter fluid, and once you have her idling, spray around any hoses, gaskets, any place air could get in, injectors as well as the grommets could be cracked. If the idle dips when you spray a place check all hoses caps etc in that area, replace them if they look worn.

Could it be that your throttle cable is just too loose?

On at least an 87, There is a hose that comes off a metal tube behind the TB. This hose goes into the air intake hose before it enters the TB. Tough to explain, easier to show. If this is not hooked up, the car will not idle at all. It will start and rev but then just die.

Here is another angle of the hose going into the air intake.

Check all the vacuum nipples on the side of the UIM.

Did you remove emissions? also my throttle cable was bad and it would stick and when i let off the gas it would push the pedal backwards and the car would kill. new throttle cable worked... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Even if the throttle cable was too lose, it would hold idle. The screw on the throttle body plates would keep them open enough to idle.

that one does, it just looks different. there should be a hose on the bac valve that connects after the afm
