I need to know how to wire the 5th and 6th ports open? and what are the benefits ?
Thanks for the help |
If you do wire them open, and the actuators are still good I want them.
|
Its not a mod, and there are no benefits. There are only downsides. I dont see why the hell people do it in the first place.

I removed my 6-ports altogether because the sleeves were frozen. I removed them, cleaned ALL of the crap off of them, repalced them, they worked for about 12 hours, then froze again. So, they be gone https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |

Wiring them open makes the car horrible below 3000 rpm. It bucks like a bronco and is a pain in the ass in traffic. The ONLY advantage is that the engine bay is less cluttered |
I found that the low end lost by the open ports was mostly counteracted by the low-end gain from gutting the cats...
I have pretty normal drivability at low RPM, UNLESS I'm going uphill, then the lack or tourque is very noticable. |
I can't stand the wired open anymore.. car doesn't move until like 6k
|
so it takes away what low end power i have that sucks

I can't see how a clean sleeve can seize again I cleaned mine and they still work perfectly after almost a year so obviously you have some other problem that needs to be fixed. Santiago |

Santiago And I would not claim it gives any more power, but it's a better option to open them if they don't work than to leave them closed if they don't work https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif |
I cleaned the sleeves spot to. I don't understand how hard it is to blast that **** with carb cleaner and use a flash light to check for gunk.

The previous owner obviously didn't treat the car well, there is buildup all over the place because they didn't rev it up enough. I was doing some basic work, and among other things, cleaned the sleeves. I didn't have the time or energy at that point to dig around in my block, trying to remove 12 years of buildup, without getting chunks breaking loose and droping into the rotor housing. One day I will get in there, but for the time being, pulling the sleeves was the best option. Do I need to justify my decision any more to you? And how exactly did you fit your head down there to look into the ports??? |

And how exactly did you fit your head down there to look into the ports??? Only cleaning the sleeves is like getting new brake pads but not turning your old rotors or getting new ones. Its a half assed job. Your option was the simplest and easiest not the best. Hopefully you will go back and clean everything but right now you just took the easy way out. No you don't need to justify anything I am just letting you know that you could do better. WAY BETTER I am very skinny and I run bare block so I don't have crap in the way. I can basically stand inside the engien bay if I am carefull about where I place my feet. I also used a flash light and a small mirror that is around 2 dollars at any automotive store. GOOD carb cleaner will not make it chip it will just disolve that crap. and it would be a bit hard to fall into the engine. I only took around 15-20 min on each port with all the tools I mentioned and it was spotless and they both work perfect I can now feel the tugs when they open. Santiago PS- anyways its your car so you don't have to listen to me. Just take what I say and the rest say into considreation. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png |

i took the sleeves out of the gxl that i had and i never noticed a drop in power in low rpm band.
intake and mid pipe might have helped out with that, but the car was still very driveable at low rpm's , and the only difference i noticed was a smoother pull in gear rather than the mentioned tug when the ports normally open. performance was identical. if they work leave em if they dont pull them. or you can do whatever the hell you want cause its your car. |

I think you said you had true duals too.. where are you getting the backpressure from (one rotor or both)? I feel like a broken record but I cleaned EVERYTHING, swapped LIM's and actuators, blah blah. One of mine will actually open near 6k with the actuators on but thats it. I am wondering if the added weight of the inserts makes it need more backpressure now or if maybe one of the sleeves is not perfectly round anymore since the install. Either way, I think the stock s4 backpressure activation is unpredictable and sucks. I still would like to find another way without the air pump method. |
agreed, but umm how the hell did you know that only one of your sleeves opened?
|
vaseline baby.. I'm guessing 6k according to ass.. the other one didn't budge
|
So basically it is up to me if i want to do the job half ass
|
yep
|
so how do i wire the 5th and 6th open?
pics? i just installed a RB header and test pipe and i'de like to know how to wire them open? thanx _Jason |
