Ok, I removed most of my a/c components, and I figured I should fix my heater for winter, and for defrosting.
When I turn it on, full heat, full fan, I feel no heat, and the fan blows not very much air. I pulled the blower out awhile ago, just to make sure there wasn't any crap/dead animals in there, but that's all I did. I don't see any evidence of coolant leaking when the heater is on. Someone suggested to me that my thermostat might be stuck open, but my car's temps seem to heat up in a reasonable time, so that makes me think the thermostat is fine. Also, all the fan settings yeild different airflow, and all the airflow switches (dash, feet, defrost...) change without fault. Where should I start? Also, if anyone else has heater problems, and since winter's approaching, please feel free to post in this thread. Consolidation is good. |
if you have the key on engine off, and you play with the heater knobs do you hear motors and relays?

mike Whether I do or do not hear them, is there anything else I should/can do before tomorrow? |
you should hear em btw, if you dont hear em you have a logicon/heater motor issue, if you do hear em its something like a plugged heater core

Ok, so I turned the key on. All fan settings work, all different positions (feet, dash, defrost, recirculate, etc.) change fine. When I move from hot to cold, cold to hot, I don't hear anything going on (no ticks or buzzes or anything).
New things: I found out that my defrost vents weren't aligned, so they're blowing under the dash. Also, I think my fan might be blowing correctly, but I just didn't notice, because of the absence of my vents to concentrate the flow. So I'm convinced now that my blower is fine, I just need to find a way to move my defrost vents. Are they attached under the dash somehow, or can I just shift them with a screwdriver or something? I had my dash out once, but I don't remember anything about the defrost tubes. |
