Just wondering if a S5 Motor would actually run with an S4 ECU....if it did it would probably run bad right???

vosko 02-05-2003 02:03 PM

it will run. i have never actually tried but i think it would be fine. you would have to put the S5 engine block and S4 front cover and all S4 manifolds and electronics

Comitatus 02-05-2003 02:36 PM

thanks vosko...I was asking because I found an 87 TII for sale in my area with an 89 S5 jspec that the guy just put in it...he said he had it running but it wasnt running well...and I figured it was because he didnt swap out the ecu or anything...I want to drop the motor in my 88 vert..and I was just seeing if i should start looking for a stand alone ecu system...what would you recommend??? thanks....

Comitatus 02-05-2003 02:37 PM

another ?????, is an S5 TII tranny better than an S4?

vosko 02-05-2003 02:39 PM

go haltech!!!!!!!! just ask turborotor https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

TII trannies are all the same. i guess a S5 is better because its newer lol

if you are gonna put a TII engine in your vert it is better to go with a haltech because you have to rewire it anyway and you get a brand new wiring harness to work with :bigthumg:

Comitatus 02-05-2003 02:49 PM

thanks again...I will prolly end up buying the car that I found and use it as a good parts car for the whole swap...

Haltech it is then!!!!!!! Know anywhere where i can get a good deal???

Also, I want to put an FD intake manifold on S5 block...would I have to use the upper and lower FD manifold, or could I just use the upper??

vosko 02-05-2003 03:20 PM

you can use just the upper. 13BAce used to have that. try asking speed_nyc he probably knows where to get a E6K cheap. why don't you just have 2 cars. fix the TII and keep the vert :smirk:

j9fd3s 02-05-2003 03:21 PM

the t2 trannies are almost the same. yah if you do the swap its less work to use the haltech

The S5's have a different shifting mechanism I think < I was told that anyway >

75 Repu 02-05-2003 03:55 PM

Is there a benefit to using the FD UIM.. Besides looks?

j9fd3s 02-05-2003 03:56 PM

i think the fd uim is worth a little bit of power

mike

75 Repu 02-05-2003 03:58 PM

what about e6k vs e11... is there a benefit?

i heard the s5 t2 tranny is stronger while the s4 t2 tranny has quicker 1st gear/or 5th gear, anyhow is geared faster.

vosko 02-05-2003 04:06 PM

go with a E6K it is proven. lots of people having problems getting the E11 installed and working correctly. its to be expected with any brand new system unfortunately

75 Repu 02-05-2003 04:08 PM

Cool, besides my truck will be street and maybe daily driven for a while so I can get it on the road much quicker..

vosko 02-05-2003 04:09 PM

have j9 help you. if he can put a 20B in his TII he can help you haha

75 Repu 02-05-2003 04:13 PM

If I buy that Big Block 73 by the time I get the ECU maybe I will tow it to his house and have him help me..

j9fd3s 02-05-2003 04:25 PM

the e11 will run your metering pump, and other than that will run the car the same as the e6k

vosko 02-05-2003 04:29 PM

mike hit the nail on the head with the E11. it does OMP and onboard datalogging, also can run tree rota. that's about it right mike ?

j9fd3s 02-05-2003 04:34 PM

yup, hey you still reading the haltech list vosko?

mike

vosko 02-05-2003 04:40 PM

of course i am how do you think i know BDC had to rewire the whole E11 harness to make the TII he installed it in run https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

j9fd3s 02-05-2003 04:43 PM

haha, cool :bigthumg:

Comitatus 02-05-2003 06:02 PM

thanks for all the help guys.....

Does anyone know anyone that has an upper FD manifold for sale...????

I would just have 2 cars...But the thrill of having a Turbo Convertible...and a rare car...appeals to me

Plus...we all know the ladies love convertibles :bigok:

j9fd3s 02-05-2003 06:12 PM

yeah a turbo vert would be sexy

mike

vosko 02-05-2003 06:13 PM

i have never driven a convertible ! 13BAce offered to let me drive his vert with the T78 but i didn't want to risk getting in an accident when that thing hit warp 10 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

j9fd3s 02-05-2003 06:18 PM

plus it would break on you

S4 has closer gears and the S5 has different mounts. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif On a first gen swap your limited to the S4 T2 tranny for the easier mounts. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif Oh well at least the S4 mount is easy to make for it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

you just have to port match the Fd UIM to the stock t2 LIM, this way you can keep the stock t2 secondary fuel setup too. I'm going to do this once i get some cash.
