so im driving down the road. driving pretty calm the whole time. then the radio starts turning off. than back on. and starts doing that more often in the next 2-3 minutes. then the car starts sounding shitty. the gauge starts to read from its normal rich to VERY lean. i can hear to turbo spooling crazy so i know that the gauge isnt wrong. its getting hot in there. i go to pull over and the car dies out before i can. i try and restart so maybe i can see something happening, but the batteryis dead! WTF?

so i tow it back to my house. its almost 12am so i leave it until the morning. so i try and start it...the battery will barely turn over the engine. i use my jump pack it it starts up perfect as it usually does. i let it run for a minute and pull the pack off. it dies. i re-attatch it and i start it again. Vroom...it starts. let it idle and rev it a little. then leave the pack connected but turn it off. bam, the car shuts down...

i dont want to jump to conclusions, but im thinking the battery just took a ****. but why would it do that? i never had a battery problem. im not thinking th alt. is bad. but i havnt tested it yet...

any ideas why the battery would do this, or what do you think it is?

normally if it runs on a pack, but not in its own then the alternator has probably failed

test the alternator.

phinsup 07-06-2008 06:12 PM

Yer alternator is ****, if you pull the cable off the battery and it dies its yer alt. Go have it tested

phinsup 07-06-2008 06:12 PM

damn you rob, i was typing fast i knew you were gonna beat me https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif and you know me typing fast is like 200wpm

RE_TurboFB 07-06-2008 06:16 PM

I am 95% sure it your alternator.. sometimes when a alternator is going out it can put a big strain on the battery and fry it also..

Rob x-7 07-06-2008 06:27 PM

be sure to charge up your battery if changing the alternator

I have some odd problems in the last few years with batteries- they dont make em like they used to thats for sure

jwteknix 07-06-2008 06:39 PM

I recommend if changing the Alt to change the battery too I've been screwed by having Alt **** out prematurly due to it trying to charge a fucked up battery

Kalito_Racing 07-06-2008 07:01 PM

I concur. Have the battery checked out before getting a a new one, its for free at most autoparts stores. Some batteries can take some abuse and others only last a few hours with a dead alt.

Its funny how the radio is always the first thing to go screwy when the alt goes.

it`s funny the last thing people think about is the alternator when this happens

krazy13 07-07-2008 02:09 AM

Oh yeah.... It happened to me when when I first got mine... Its usually a really good idea to kick it over 3k rpm... and the alternator is usually a common problem (I don't know why...)
