GregW from teamfc3s came over to my place today, and we went to work on my car. He adjusted my clutch, fixed that problem. We traced the tach wire on his fsm and on a t2 on his house, soldered and fixed the cut wire on the trailing coil.. I took the auto starter off my gxl and greg swapped the bushings and the coil onto my t2 starter housing. Took it for a drive, and I should have let him drive, cuz I killed it a lot, but was lucky enough to be on a hill all of the times and I just popped the clutch to start it again... I was only seeing 8volts and none of my gauges were working... Then it died on an upward hill, and I had run way back to my house to get a battery, after we swapped batteries, it was still low @ 12volts, but after driving it for a lil while it went to 14v. Greg said it was probably just deep cycled.. Then I drove it up and down a freeway some... I couldn't have done it w/o greg, he is the man and I owe him... and it doesn't smoke https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.png
There is a very wierd noise coming from the drivetrain, its road speed related.. Doesn't go away whether I'm in gear, out, clutch in or out, or what rpms... Just gets louder as my car goes faster(mph)... We tried jacking the car up and spinning all the wheels and listening, couldn't find it.. I also have a messed up or wrong throwout bearing, it makes wierd noises.. I also have a boost leak coming from somewhere, cuz the car is slow, and I am making 10psi.. We could also hear a vacuum leak, and the idle is lopy(streetport?)hehe https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif Greg........ |
how is the tach related to the trailing coil? my rpm's haven't been registering while attempting to start my car since my car flooded and my plugs/wires took a spill for the worse.

tach gets its signal from the trailing coils, the Yellow wire on the coil side of the connector plugs into the front chassis harness, then to tacho..

The noise sounds bearing related. You most likely don't hear it with the car jacked up because there is no LOAD on the bearing while it is free-wheeling. Take it to a tire shop that does "on-car" tire balancing and listen to each wheel while its being balanced. This will get you a good balancing and either find or eliminate a source of the noise. John

Got it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
It was the sleeve on the U-joint that slips over the tail shaft on the tranny.. It was crushed down a little. I had to "drive the car" on jackstands... |
