I was browsing RB's website because I'm going the N/A route and wanted a good header, but they have four different RB headers!

I don't know which one is best for me :( Do these bolt up to the stock exhoaust? And while we're at it... What better the CorckSport 13b Header or the Racing Beat 13b header? Thanks guys:)

RotaryVillain 05-20-2007 06:00 PM

is your car an s4 or s5? if s4.you need to decide whether you wanna keep your aux port actuators or just wire the ports open.

Then , if you DONT want the aux ports

decide if you wanna buy the big $ true dual system cuz unless you buy everything from racing beat it wont bolt up to anything else.!

if you dont like noise buy the straight pipe/presilencer combo they sell, headers are QUite Loud!

Rotary_Engaged 05-20-2007 06:42 PM

I have an S4 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif I would like I thought the RB design meant the actuators (still don't know what those are) would open at the right back pressure. I would like something with an O2 bung so I can still pass the emissions tail pipe test. I imagine noise shouldn't be a big deal if I just shift at lower RPM's during daily driving.

BTW how big is the stock cat? 2.5 or 2.25 I'll replace it with a high flow unit while I'm at it. I'm sure a new cat will clean the air bette the 20 year old stock peice anyways.

Anyone know about Corksport?

RotaryVillain 05-20-2007 06:47 PM

the problem with getting a new converter is that you will have to get one custom made or buy a rather pricey bolt up one from Mazdatrix.

the reason why: FC headers are NOT meant to bolt up to stock #3 converter. so........

go to mazdatrix.com or you could just get a bolt up pipe off of ebay can be found for 35 bucks however if you just bolt up a pipe and no converter you will Never in your wildess dreams pass emissions https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

@ mazdatrix they sell all the racingbeat stuff anyways but also have the matching converter if you desire, RB only sells the matching presilencer no converters. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

RotaryVillain 05-20-2007 06:50 PM

http://mazdatrix.com/e-gray.htm there ya go https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif

but after reveiewing the mazdatrix page myself they sell RB headers but only list one for ALL 86-91's so they dont stock the one you need (with the tube for the ports). maybe call em up or something, they DO have the bolt up converter though and it aint cheap.

and i HIGHLY suggest you find video clips of a FC w/ headers to make sure you can stand the noise, trust me, shifting at lower points aint gonna do squat it is LOUD at startup at idle ALL the TIME! (with a straight pipe like ive been running on my fc) https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif

RotaryRocket219 05-20-2007 06:53 PM

racing beats presilencers are the **** when it comes to sound...BUT i will say i've purchased two for various projects and ive had to pull both back off before. and i had one to two studs break upon removal with both different units. bolts were not hot AND i sprayed them with liquid torch (penetrating shiat that always works for me except for here). anyway they weld the studs into there presilencers so you cant ******* replace the studs. bastards.

RotaryVillain 05-20-2007 06:55 PM

"anyway they weld the studs into there presilencers so you cant ******* replace the studs. bastards."

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif ahhhhh why did they do that?

Rotary_Engaged 05-20-2007 07:05 PM

My FC currently passes emission no problem what so ever right now, I'm well within legal limits for nox, co2 etc. The engine runs great! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif I don't see why a header would make me fail...?

Unless I'm removing cats by installing a header? I thought the S4 only had one cat?!?

RotaryVillain 05-20-2007 07:10 PM

stock s4's come with 3 cats.\,. installing a header replaces the front 2 and like i said the last will not fit anymore due to header lengths... so.... you can always just keep your stock cats and some spare gaskets handy and just install/uninstall for emissions test and put back on your headers after the test! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

Rotary_Engaged 05-20-2007 07:27 PM

Damn! In that case i might go with a Random Technology Catalytic Convertor + a Cork sport header. The RT cat should bolt up as should the CS header. RT's cat should (in theory) do the work of 20 year old cats.

yeah the thought of buying a 475 converter just so somebody can use RB headers is kinda ridiculous https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

shoot you can get a magnaflow converter , a midpipe, and have an exhaust shop cut/weld everything up for probably Half the cost of a mazdatrix header converter!

of course some people might say using a converter with headers is also pointless....... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

Rotary_Engaged 05-20-2007 07:51 PM

Actually...I think I might say screw going n/a if I won't be able to pass emissions :( I might stock turbo swap it and call it a day. Staying n/a would be easier if I could pass emissions. The CS header is $300 and the RT cat is $250 I can't justify that money used for a few hp, when I could put it towards dropping a stock 13b-t.

I know but I live in Massachusetts; got to pass the tail pipe. Todays high flow cats are actually really good at not robbing hp. they're very efficient.

who said you would pass emissions with a 13bt? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub... and either way youd be buying a new converter.

Rotary_Engaged 05-20-2007 09:01 PM

but atleast then I have more power!

Rotary_Engaged 05-20-2007 09:30 PM

New Product release from CorkSport, the Power Series N/A Header for the 86-91 Rx7. The Power Series Header is made from 304 SS and bolts up to the stock cat on your Rx7. This header is in stock. We dynoed the header on a stock 1990 Rx7 and gained 14hp

http://corksport.com/store/image/1ch...N_A_Header.jpg

I have to pass emissions again in like 2 years. I think I'll just get this put it in myself. try to pass emissions down the road and if I don't I'll blame the cat and get a newer more efficient piece https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

header fails the visual if you have it. as far as actual tailpipe emissions the header seems to actually help a little when everythings hot.

todays highlfow cats maybe flow a teeny bit more than the stockers, but they wont last half as long

We don't have visual inspection in MA, They check for leaks and then run the tail pipe that's all. We don't need CARB stickers or anything.

nobody in CA actually knows what a carb sticker is....

Rotary_Engaged 05-22-2007 10:43 AM

Really?

Thinking about this more deeply, I'm going to continue with the n/a build as fuel management should help keep fuel in check and a header will run a little hotter and burn up fuel before it gets to the main cat. I'm going with Corksport as it bolt's up to the stock cat.

rowtareh 05-22-2007 05:22 PM

Check out SDJ motorsports headers also, they are more money, but seem to be worthy enough.

Rotary_Engaged 05-28-2007 10:19 PM

http://www.rx7.com/store/rx7/fcexhaust.html#Nonturbo

They have a cheaper Cat for use with the Racing beat header.

I was able to have an exhaust shop weld a flange onto the RB header, and it bolted up just fine to the 3rd cat... Granted, I dont have emissions in my state, and it would probably fail... but it works. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif
