Hi. I would like to paint my rx7 to a different color that what I have now ( i have red and want white). Just wondering how do they paint the engine bay? or if they even paint it at all. My engine bay is really dirty, do they clean it up for u er what? TIA

If you want a full conversion it will cost you quite a bit, since they have to do engine, door jams, and other little areas. The way they paint the engine bay is simple, they take out all engine parts then paint.

My car is going in this Monday to an expert shop, and its costing roughly $700.

700 to paint under the hood, everything and the subframe to. I've done business with them before, they are a local neighborhood shop, and have been doing it for like 30yrs. They are really good and inexpensive.

Do they do welding and other fun things like that? I think I need most of the underbody of my car replaced. (don't ask why I don't junk it and start over, because I don't have a sensible answer.)

There is no need to strip the thing down to metal, unless it was very rusted or something, if the paint is in good condition, its BETTER to leave it on then to take it off. $700 for a engine bay, I would bet they are going to do a good job. The thing with the engine bay is cleaning it from all the grease and what not, paint obviously doesnt stick to any surface with any trace of oil/grease/silicone on it, and it will fisheye and basically be a mess as well. Being very hard to correct afterwords once this has happen. Then trying to sand the surface for paint, they are probably going to wash the engine bay down with a ScotchBrite pad and some abrasive cleaner, having someone scrub that thing for hours to clean it and scuff it for paint. Alot of shops wont even get involved painting engine bays, besides the mess, they dont want to deal with pushing someone's car around the shop and **** like that. I would say it would be AT LEAST a full days prep to properly get a engine bay ready for paint.
