I'm looking at buying an 88 RX7 2+2 and am wanting to bump the wheels/tires up to 16's. What offset/backspacing do you guys recommend? Also what size tire would work well with it. I've been out of the sport compact scene for quite a long time so unless you're talking about backspacing on Jeeps....I'm lost! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif

First we call it offset second cool third 16's are nice but what you looking for 16x? Go with a 16x7 or 8 as far as offset goes i cant remember what gets you a nice fitment and what gets you good but a 0 offset is pretty nice the crown vic meshies look pretty good on an fc fyi

16 inch tires are generally more expensive than 17 inch tires, plus sizes are somewhat limited.

Yes please. Those things do look bitchin' on an FC, those will be easy to find too! Thats the look i was going for! What years do these come one? How much am I looking at for a 5 lug conversion though?

RicerJ 06-04-2011 10:34 PM

I did my 5 lug conversion for just under 300

as far as offset goes i assume youre after some flush stance heres a calculator http://www.1010tires...tcalculator.asp you enter stock which is 6 or 6.5 wide with 40 offset from memory then you enter new wheel width and offset and it gives inner clearance and how much further out the wheel will sit. dont get stuck on having the lowest offset coz a low offset on a skinny rim can have the wheel sitting further in than a higher offset on a wider rim. as far as tyres depends whether you want/need stretch to fit em in your guards. i put these on my car but i need spacers as the inner clearance is terrible and they not flush enough.http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/2267/img2713n.jpg

By benfarnath at 2011-06-01 its off for panel and paint next month. the wheels started like this http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/9...3537361414.jpg

Uploaded with ImageShack.us but with hours of love they are what you see in pic one. they were curbed to hell and for some reason attacked with a grinder before i got em. dont be afraid to buy something you see the potential in. i paid 150nzd which is nothing for a set of 17x7.5 and 17x8.5 wheels

RicerJ 06-08-2011 05:18 AM

the crown vic meshies are 16x7 with a 0 offset and set pretty fllush

Thanks for the Replies guys. Should have the car next week and then i'll decide whether I want to do the five lug conversion or not. Its gonna be left alone for a while as I am about to get a rollcage installed in my Cherokee and I need wheels while my buddy has my Jeep. I plan on using the car to run AutoX events locally. I am not gonna be out there being super competitive or anything. Mostly for fun. I didn't want to go with too big of a rim so i thought 16's would be a nice fit. I may even just go with 15's and call it a day.

it takes about 5 hours or so to do a 5 lug conversion if you have everything

Oh i know it won't take long, just saying I need the extra money to get the cage on my Jeep installed. The RX7 will be a side project until i finish my axles and a few other things on the jeep.
