Went to my friends house the other day and when I was leaving I got in the car turned the key and it didn't start. It clicked when I turned it over.I seen if the lights worked and they did but they came up very slow and dim.The windows wouldn't move at all.I tried again to start the car and this time the clicking wouldn't stop untill I took out the top fuse....put it back in and it stoped. Then my friend got the jumper cables and gave me a jump.Drove home and the next morning went to start it and it started.Went out 30 minutes ago to start it again and it started. What's the problem? Is my alternator going or is it a bad connection somewhere, what is it? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

Um, left your lights on?? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif
You probably have a short somewhere in your starter circuit, it's draining your battery. Obviously you have something wrong in the starter, since you had an out of control relay. I expect that your battery will be on it's last leg soon, and you should expect to have to jump start it again before long. |
could be any of the following:
alternator battery connections starter being as the "clicking" wouldnt stop, I would first check all the connections, then I would lean towards a starter, also make sure the ignition key is disengaging. |

And still expect to loose the battery. Once you drain them that low, they're forever damaged, and won't hold a charge as well. Might want to consider a good battery, like an Optima next time. It'll survive these little "setbacks" better. |
jammed/malfunctioning headlight motors too, that is what was killing my batt when i got my vert.
|
Allright thanks guys.Where can i get a alternator tester and how much would it cost?

If you hear a clicking noise and it does not subside... It's prolly your starter. The solenoid can keep "flinging" the little pinion gear (that turns the flywheel) out making a distinct clicking noise and draining your battery. I made the mistake of jumping a battery on a truck while the starter was doing this and as soon as it had enough juice the truck surged at me cause it was still trying to start. Also, the lead battery terminal melted on the positive side. Something else to consider. Just cause your battery is new does not mean it is good... If I were to guess, I owuld say the night your car would not start it was prolly cold right. Your in Detroit so it was prolly really damn cold https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png Your "newer" battery may not have enough Cold Cranking amps to start your seven in the cold. Or if none of these things are applicable and it never happens again you may have just left a DC device on while you were out of the car... Lights, stereo, etc... Hope this helps a little |
Yah that helped.Thats what im gonna do first thing tomorrow is get the alternator and battery tested. If I need a battery how many cranking amps do I need, its cold like a mofo out here.I tried to start the TII this morning and it didn't start but it tried to...there was no longer a clicking noise when I tried to turn it over. Can it still be the starter?

There are lots of high amperage batteries out there and a FEW have good warranties. Get one with a good warranty and high COLD CRANKING AMPERAGE and put the receipt in the plastic sealable bag on the side of your battery. I always laughed at how gay that was until I had a battery go bad the first cold snap we had last year. I could not find my receipt at all and was out $70. DOH! |
