Depends on the driver. If its me driving, not very much.

I broke an FB tranny in a month with a stock port engine. With a ported engine, I broke a S5 n/a trany, which is the strongest of the n/a trannies, in a month.

Some people have kept n/a trannies alive with a turbo 6 port. You have to drive very nicely though, and youre still flirting with disaster.

thanks for the reply. my tranny is an S5 tranny so i guess its the thoughest N/A tranny. i hope it can withstand the occasional auto-x. i don't really get on it much around town cuz my lisense has been flagged by a state trooper https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

anyways, i hope that i can make the tranny last long enough for me to find a TII drive train.

If you dont have some serious mods oen, dont worry about the n/a driveline. Unless you have a heavily ported engine along with the bolt-ons, and have a knack for breaking things, youll be fine.

our race car (its/ps1) goes thru trannies. due to the rules its stock port/ stock intake manifolds.

i pulled an old one apart, all the synchros were shot, 3rd was broken. chipped gear tooth on the input shaft and the 3/4 clutch hub is toast. the one in the car i think is gonna be the same

we also dont make any kind of standing start....

You must drive like I do.

as for mods, i'll be running full turbo back exhaust with an intake so nothing to extreme.

I’ve put 420,000 miles on my original S5 NA transmission. They last a long time if they’re not abused.

676200km, Damm that's alot of km.

i'm easy on it, its tommy, seth, paul, alex, todd, craig and anyone else who drives the race car (it does get passed around like the village *****)

i think teh s5 tranny is just fine, if you are talkign about syncros then you just need to learn how to shift, if you actually kill gear teeth then u drive too hard, i have done plenty launches and racign on my s5 na tranny and its as good as it was when i got it, it was 148k on it now. the 5th syncro was shot when i got it but nothign revmathing cant fix https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

mazdaspeed7 04-01-2004 01:19 PM

Kahren, you put in a ported motor and see how long those teeth last. My S5 tranny never missed a beat with a stock port engine, or even my aux bridge. It only took me a month after breaking in the SP engine that I broke it. I couldnt drive the car without worrying my 5th gear wouldnt be there by the time I got to where I was going. And it sounded like tryign to run a screwdriver through a pencil sharpener when you drove it. I still need to pull it apart, see what damage I caused. I found a few teeth when I drained the fluid.

does anyone know if a JDM wiring harness for an S5 TII will work with the USDM TII ECU? thanks for any help.
