In an RX-7, what is the best spark plug to get? Are NGKs noticeably different from boschs? Would NGKs help my high end power at all?

j9fd3s 12-13-2002 04:29 PM

the stock plugs are the best

spark plugs do NOT give you power..i dont give a **** it they are made out of metal that came from a planet in a far off galaxy........

mike is very very correct

they don't "add" power, but if you have crappy ones to start with, ones that can't funtion at high rpm very well, then you will gain power.

turborotor 12-13-2002 08:10 PM

NGK are the stock plugs brand, stick to them.

RX7ryder 12-13-2002 10:40 PM

I believe there was someone on the other forum that tested the platinum vs. regular NGK on a MSD 6a, and the test result were that the platinum was like 10 more hp or something like that.

FCmaniac 12-14-2002 08:41 AM

10 hp! that's hard to believe.... platinum plugs are just supposed to last longer and that's it.

ChainSawOnSteroids 12-14-2002 08:50 AM

NGK all the way!!!

j9fd3s 12-16-2002 04:41 PM

the fd and fc plugs are the same except the fd ones are platinum, they are the same price too so feel free to try them out

what? Are you talking about just rotaries??? Give me a link to all this HP and life info....

RX7ryder 12-16-2002 11:18 PM

well ok I was wrong the performance increase was not from the Platinum, but from Iridium. just was read this, something like 600 horsepowers increase from iridium? not bad. http://209.132.206.136/content/pht/pht20010101ds.xml

mazdaspeed101 12-17-2002 06:24 AM

i thought there was just two brands that make plugs for rx-7s

sidewinderx7 12-17-2002 06:42 AM

When i went to schucks to get some new spark plugs, they wanted 15 bucks a pop for the 'stock' plugs. They were listed at laser platinum or something like that. I opted for the 5 dollar ones. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Erik 12-17-2002 07:27 AM

wow...$15 a piece?!?!?!

bought some platinum plugs recently just because the place didn't have the stock NGK ones...

and they were cheaper in price than the plane old denso's i had before them...$5 a plug :bigthumg:

j9fd3s 12-17-2002 10:55 AM

there are 2 manufacturers for the plugs; ngk and nippondenso, the nippondenso's can be hard to find and expensive

To correct you, Iridium spark plugs did not give the 1100hp engine 750hp.

Iridium spark plugs let the 1900hp engine get close to its mark https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Geoffman72 12-17-2002 11:22 AM

And yes, the stock plugs are just fine unless you have a pretty well modded turbo

Apex13B 12-17-2002 01:25 PM

uhhhhhh......if you are blowing the spark out with a turbo motor....its weak ignition, not ******* plugs....if you are looking for power..look elsewhere....

FCmaniac 12-18-2002 06:08 AM

Has anyone ran just the standard Denso plugs (not Iridium)? I'm curious about how they held up after 15K or more compared to NGK R's.

Geoffman72 12-18-2002 01:03 PM

Good question. I havent even heard of anybody finding them really.

i had the denso's in my 91 n/a for a while...the car ran great while they were in

after about 13K i changed them...the porcelien (sp?) piece of the plug actually cracked open! lol...and sparks were flying out. and this went on for about 1000 miles before i noticed what was wrong...kept hearing this "static" noise coming from the engine bay on hot days. finally saw the sparks and changed them

Apex13B 12-18-2002 10:34 PM

lol...the same thing happened to me with NGK plugs...after 1000 miles though..its just a freak occurence...shitty porcleain slips through quality control dept.
