I was wondering if i should put 93 in it or if 87 is good? Anyone know which is better?

Nemesis 07-16-2003 02:47 PM

87, no need for anything higher in an N/A. They run better on lower octane gas.

1987rx7guy 07-16-2003 02:49 PM

87 octane is what I run. I ran 93 octane once and it didn't really do anything other than put a dent in my wallet

banzaitoyota 07-16-2003 03:14 PM

87 lower ocatane performs better in NA's

Baldy 07-16-2003 03:30 PM

I was told that lower octane is more volatile, is that true? Also, that higher compression engines use higher octane, because they ignite at a higher temperature. So, that would mean that, unless you have a high-performance, high-compression machine, lower octane is actually better, right? Am I close?

I put 87 in mine.. only put premium in it once, to pass smog..

Streetrally 07-16-2003 03:55 PM

I guess the question is how low can you go? Someone told me that they once put 80 in theirs, but they were probably bullshitting me. Nothin but 87 for me.

winger 07-16-2003 04:24 PM

always 87

sometimes higher when its the only pump avail. or when i make a mistake

Pazuzu 07-16-2003 04:35 PM

What about premix? We decided that premixing lowers the octane about 1 point, was it ever decide that 86 was good enough, or should you switch to 89 if you premix (giving a working octane of 88)?

Only some of the ghetto stations have 87 let alone 80!

WishIhadaRX7 07-16-2003 05:37 PM

I think you misunderstood, I've never seen anything less than 87 lol

Rob x-7 07-16-2003 05:37 PM

I was saying that because you are from Toledo, what do they say

in Toledo instead of holy toledo?

WishIhadaRX7 07-16-2003 05:41 PM

lol, I guess that's what we say too, but it's prolly been said so many times that no one says it anymore, so I guess we don't say it, but some people do https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

Older, older, I mean older!!! piston airplanes used to run on 80 low lead fuel. You maybe able to find some at a small airport that runs old biplanes or cropdusters or something like that. Piston planes usually all run on 100 LL AVGAS.

Why you would want to I haven't got a clue. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif
