Ok.. I know this is a dumb question but.. oh well. What kind of oil should I put in my car? It's an S5 and doesn't have an oil cooler, so I was wondering what kind of oil and how much it would take. Thanks.

a. wHY DONT YOU HAVE AN OIL COOLER?

YOU DO REALIZE ~30% OF THE COOLING FOR THE ENGINE IS THRU THE OIL COOLER?

5 QTS 10W-40 WILL WORK FINE

Thank you. And I don't have an oil cooler because my car didn't come with one. It is on a list of things to get for my car though. And should it be Fully Synthetic?

i don't get it, why don't you have an oil cooler and where did the oil cooler go? lol

anyways, a bit of a determining factor is if you are running the stock oil injection or not. are you?

if you are, then most people suggest not to use the full synthetic oils, at least not the cheaper ones. if you have that stock system disabled, synthetic breakdown residue inside the combustion chamber is not so much an issue, so you can go ahead.

personally i use Castrol GTX 10w30, all the time. i am premixing my oil, with the MOP disabled.

it's a great oil, cheap, does the job.

i rule of thumb i use for the weight of oil is to not go more than a 20 weight seperation. for example, 20w50 has a 30 seperation. the reason is that the larger the seperation, the more complex the compounds in the oil have to be, which indirectly leave more deposits when the burn.

really this doesn't need that much thought...i have never heard of anyone losing an engine because the oil didn't do its job. maybe oil STARVATION, but that is different...

what's more important is that you do regular oil changes and maintenance.

and get that damn oil cooler! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

ALL Rx-7's came with an oil cooler!!!!!! If someone took yours off you could run into some serious problems! There is no way that your car just didn't come with one. Mazda never sent an Rx-7 away from the factory without one! You should take pics of under the hood and through the front grill and post them here. If you bought the car from someone and they did indeed take the oil cooler off you need to call them and ask them WTF they were thinking!!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683431.gif
