I'm putting an RB roadrace header on my `87 gxl and figured this would be a good time to put an EGT probe into it(not needed currently, but might be handy for future upgrades). Everything I've read about installing EGT probes is for piston engines and says to put it in the header in the path of the hottest piston. For a rotary, would that be the rotor closest to the nose or closest to the cab? Or do we place the probe some place totally different?

Some of the EGT probes I've looked at talk about how they're so fast with their readings. I'm not looking for super-duper-fast readouts. Just something of reasonable quality (won't need to replace in 4 months) and cheap. I don't know what type of output signals these things send, but I would like to be able to hook it to some circuitry and output on a 7segment display or something. Anyone suggest a specific brand/model of probe?

What super cheap EGT gauges are available? I'll only be using the gauge untill I build the 7-segment display and logging circuitry, so this can just about as trashy as they come.

Thanks, rxKaffee <rxKaffee@asdf.ws>

if autometer makes one, their's should be cheapest. most of their measuring equipment are as simple and cheap as you can get.

i got a GReddy and mounted the probe in my down pipe, but i have a turbo. you might want to put in in the exhaust manifold, though, where it is hotter and more precise in measurement.
