my 89 GXL has a 87 Tii motor under tha hood, the car does want to start, but we can pop start it real easy by just pushing it, changed the coils w/ ignitors, still nothing, started checking wires every thing seemed good. now unfortunatly i got it from a guy that had no clue what he was doing, and since im pretty new to the rotary world i dont know much either. bow when i was probing up some wires i found that the crank angle sensor wasnt getting alot of juice, checked to wire out side of the ECU the wire had more juice but still not alot, i pulled harness out and the wire is fine, could it b the ECU thats fucked up, or some thing else, i want to get a new ECU just in case, i got one lined up just got to b absolutly sure that this will fix my baby, been working on her in this condition for awhile, now that spring is almost here and i promised myself id have it going by end of march, TIME TO GET CRACKING!!

Yah, I wouldn't be pulling the ECU just yet. Unless you know the one you've got has been focked with, I wouldn't go there first if I was looking for a no-start.



When you say you can "pop start it real easy" what does that mean? If you push start the car, does it run? Have you driven it?



I don't know what kind of shape your battery is in, but if I'm going to try to start a car that has been sitting, for even a month, I will always start with a fresh, fully charged battery. Just because you can get the starter to turn over with a jump, doesn't mean that the car is going to run.



And be sure to un-flood it. New plugs will help also.

yea ive pushed the car with a buddy in the drivers seat and it fired after the dropigng of the clutch. the battery is brand sapanking new, and the plugs were replaced. the car will try to start but it will just keep on cranking, this bitch just wont fire, ive tried to unclog it by taking the trailing plugs out and cranking for like 45 seconds, put plugs in still nothing, its actually getting frustrating that i cant get this ***** going, today we pulled ecu the bitch had a short in it, but still not sure if thats the whole problem, i was also asked to check the compression and the rear seal, havnt got to that yet, thast gonna b sundays thing got to much **** on my hands right now, but the more input i get from yall, the more i know also, so plz keep it coming

I had a car like this recently. It would turn over fine but wouldn't fire. We weren't getting spark for some reason. Turned out it was just a really low battery. The rotary doesn't take a lot of juice to turn over so a weak battery may do a decent job of that but not have enough voltage to make good spark. Charge the battery good...even though it's new just to eliminate that. When you're bump starting it you have the alternator spinning which could be compensating for a low battery. Not saying this IS your problem but I've seen it in the past with an RX-7 and other vehichles with CDI ignition.

Since push starting works, but cranking doesn't, I suspect a weak battery or a weak primary cable connection.



Put a voltmeter on the battery & see if it holds >9 volts while cranking.

Then see if the voltage at the main fuse is the same as the battery while cranking.

today i charged battery still wont turn over, we pop started it, of cours egot it running, checked for spark out of my trailing plugs, nothiing, put the timing light on it, nothing, could it b in the CAS?

it was also brought up to me, that it could b the rear seal, im not sure yet, i would like more oppions on that one b4 i get down and dirty
