series IV are 86-88 180hp 180tq, series V 89-91 200tq 200hp. the series V are rarer and have updated interior, updated engine closer to a 93 engine. if you can get the series V they cost more but are alot nicer https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

You only quoted the hp for the Turbo, and your torque #s are just a tad bit off there.....

Series 4

138 ft-lb @ 3500 rpm

TII

1987 - 1988 182 hp @ 6500 rpm

183 ft-lb @ 3500 rpm

Series 5

NA

1989 - 1992 160 hp @ 7000 rpm

140 ft-lb @ 4000 rpm

TII

also...the series V weigh a litte more than the older ones by a little bit. but the little extra hp makes up for it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

In 1989 Mazda gave the second generation RX-7 its only redesign. This redesign was mostly minor cosmetic changes, for instance the 4 rectangular tail lights were replaced with smoked plastic lenses which had round tail lights underneath them. A newer, redesigned front air dam with fog lights was included in the facelift. Also, new and more aerodynamic side view mirrors, which had that hole between the mirror and body, yet had much more beautiful flowing lines and they extended farther from the body than previous models, this also helped cure blind spots in the previous model RX-7's. The spoiler was once again standard on all models. Body trim around the body was now colored the same as the body. The GTU was pushed down and replaced the SE as the base model, and the GTU position in the line-up was taken over by the rare GTUs . The GTUs was identical to the Turbo II but didn't contain the Turbo engine. The GTUs was probably the rarest RX-7 ever made. The 2+2 (back seat) option was now limited to the GXL. The fuel injection system was improved, along with higher compression and lighter rotors which allowed a higher redline of 8000rpm! These subtle changes added 14hp bringing the total up to 160hp. In the Turbo II, changes were also made to the exhaust manifold which increased boost. This raised the horsepower to 200hp. Mazda also made small internal engine improvements, for instance the waste gate became electronically controlled. Outside, new alloys were applied to the coupe models. The non-turbo models had a 15" quasi-five spoke similar to the later 3rd generation RX-7 wheels. The Turbo II and GTUs received a 16" mesh-type wheel. All speedometers reflected the new higher redline and the left cluster of gauges was changed from a 90 degree arch to full circular gauges.

Hope that helps.

OK almost all responses you got were right on the money. Have to nit-pick a couple of things though. Series V are more rare but there are always exceptions to any rule. How about an '88 Anniversary edition turbo? Only 1500 made; last year of series IV so nicest of them; all leather interior; has same newer side mirrors and same nicer looking monochromatic paint scheme as series V. Also I've read that starting with 1989 series V they all have automatic retractable seat belts which I hate with a passion! (Is this true guys?) The Anniversary Turbo does not. Yeah! One word of caution - they are available in any color you want as long as that color is white with a black leather interior. Call me biased since I've had one for 8 years and am in process of buying a second one, but I love this car. Or e-mail me! I'm selling my current one to buy the other! Happy hunting!
