I finally decided to splurge and buy an aftermarket BOV. I had decided on the Type-S but because i can't get my order to process i'm giving it more time to think. A few people said the RFL was too loud and almost obnoxious at times which i obviously don't want but at the same time the Type-S looks really nice. I haven't really heard either one IRL so i was wondering if y'all had any input.

g_dripht-alex 01-09-2004 01:09 AM

greddy type-s sounds really really nice ide deifnetly go with that, i think the rfl would prolly get annoying and stupid after a while.

sidewinderx7 01-09-2004 07:51 AM

i have the turboxs, i think it sounds really nice. Its not a chirp sound, or a deep woosh sound. It almost sounds like a school bus. lol.. but out of all of them i like the sound of the turboxs. Its all on preference though.

4RotorRocket 01-09-2004 02:23 PM

none of the above...get the HKS SSQ BOV or the Greddy Type R BOV.

mazdadrifter 01-09-2004 03:09 PM

rfl flows the best I mean when that thing opens you can see into the intake pipe

also I know where you can get one for $124 bucks brand new pm me if interested

Travisty 01-09-2004 03:25 PM

i love the sound of the type s..... which is one reason i bought it.

i believe the hks type R is made to handle higher boost levels and therefore more solid, and more money.

i like the tial bov as well.

i havent heard the tuboxs one yet.

RX7 13B 4 UR AZZ 01-10-2004 07:33 AM

I had the RFL on my turbo probe and you find your self learning how to avoid the blow off LOL.

It is a good BOV can get a bit annoying if you constantle get into boost on the street but great product.

SpecialT 01-10-2004 10:28 AM

Type S is a great sound!

If you're choosing from those 2, seems simple.

Dramon_Killer 01-10-2004 05:57 PM

I bought a type-s yesterday from phins.

teknics 01-10-2004 11:18 PM

my rfl is great, scares away the ricers.

i blew up an HKS SSQV by running 15-17psi, the innner rubber boot blewup. So i converted to onyl BOV's built in the turboxs style, no silly bellows thing to fracture.

the type s sometimes has a squeak to it, my friend has one on his wrx and it sounds good at moderately high boost levels.

seriously. The turboxs scares people. I remember one day i was just driving along .. in the middle lane. It was a sunny day, stop and go traffic. 2 van on either side of me. And a car a little in front of me.. ricer guy, 4 door civic with windows down. I wasnt even trying to, and the echo from the vans made the loudest PSHHHHHHH every time i shifted. lol.. they were all excited and pointing at my car. lol... thats the funnest .. i get that all the time because the IC .. they all point.

Speaking of pointing, the other night i was out with ecko and he slid around a corner with some riced out integra facing us at the intersection. Both the kids mouths dropped and they were just staring at us. lol...

sidewinderx7 01-11-2004 04:19 AM

forgot to add the movie

this is the turbo xs bov

this is the blitz

teknics 01-11-2004 12:25 PM

yea seriously when i drive around in paterson your basically driving in a tunnel with no roof so the echo of my BOV is sick, i release the throttle at only 5psi and it sounds like 40psi coming from the BOV. its crazy ****.

and after a while you dont actually hear it until someone gets in your car for the first time and is like "what the hell is that pshhhh sound"

rfreeman27 01-11-2004 12:34 PM

I have the RFL on my FD. It kicks ass, i dont see how people dont like it!

4RotorRocket 01-11-2004 06:32 PM

does anyone have a sound clip of the Greddy Type R BOV?

teknics 01-11-2004 06:33 PM

i made video of my RFL, but lost my FTP password and dont feel like emailing 12mb.

sooooo the fact i made a video isnt really significant.

sidewinderx7 01-11-2004 06:52 PM

ahhh... thanks little fat kid! :-D

FaztAzzGXL 01-14-2004 09:10 AM

hey how come your choosing between only the two BOV's?? if I were you i'd go for the HKS SS BOV (old school or new school). I personally think it has the best sound of them all. and theyre pretty good qaulity BOV's but out of the two you mentioned id probably go for the RFL. I downloaded a sound clip of it from the turbo XS website and it sounds really good... To me anyways https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

sidewinderx7 01-14-2004 10:54 AM

im a ricer, so i like loud and no actual perfomance gains! :-p

the type-H actually can handle quite a bit of boost before it leaks.

tas_rx7 09-22-2009 11:19 PM

I like the turbosmart type 3 sequential and the hks super sequential https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif both very nice bovs

I believe he decided to duct tape a trombone to his intake piping, but that was 5 years ago and my memory is fuzzy.

I know this thread is old as hell, but still, just for future reference.

Greddy Type S is known to leak, but there were a group of guys that liked it so much they decided to fix the leak and kind of start a company selling the fixed type S. NGR Performance Type S BOV, they sell them mostly on ebay and if you're wondering what it/the Greeddy Type S sounds like, watch The Fast and the Furious and listen to Brian's eclipse.
