just recently my dashboard has been making a werid beeping noise...at first i checked the oil and coolant to make sure everything was ok, but it still came back...it goes on exactly 3-4mins as soon as i turn the car on and drive off with it...can somebody help me? the noise is driving me crazy!!! the noise pattern goes something like this "* * * * *!" "* * * * *!" "* * * * *!..." (*=beep)

noshibby 09-25-2008 06:55 PM

power steering computer?

fc3s4utnv 09-25-2008 11:55 PM

yea i think it is because i unplugged the power steering electrical connector and the noise turned off but it drove like a mack truck...it needed power steering fluid anyway so i put some in...but as soon as i reconnected it, it did the same beeping noise 3-4 min after i drove off with it...maybe i need a new power steering computer? i have the haynes repair manual and i also have a mechanics workshop manual for the car but i cant find anything that can tell me why the power steering is making that beeping noise...does anybody have any suggestions?

Seppuku 09-26-2008 11:06 AM

Is it leaking fluid?

donhayes 09-27-2008 12:33 AM

Have you messed with you throttle body? Little tweeks can cause beeps.

not sure...i know i put more than enough power steering fluid, but it was almost empty when i first checked it. ill check it again but i think the system could have air...but then again if it had air it probably wouldnt be steering good right?

no i havent really messed with my throttle body

defprun 09-27-2008 05:50 PM

grounding a power wire makes a beep like that

fc3s4utnv 09-27-2008 07:21 PM

sounds like the speed wire from the gauge cluster is bad, mine had a break in it and made the the same beeping noise

that could be possible as well...sometimes when i gun itfrom 30mph , it'll take like either maybe 2-3seconds or me to let off the gas for the needle to go to the correct speed...but thats only for low speed though...and it happens maybe once in a while

fc3s4utnv 09-28-2008 12:02 PM

That is something else, it shouldnt take 2-3 seconds, maybe one second behind your actual speed......

vwinjen 09-29-2008 07:18 AM

yea...ill prolly have it checked out soon...btw i had one other question....my tranny grinds when i sometimes shift to 3rd gear...do u think i need a new tranny or could it be the shifter itself? (because the shifter has more play than my best friends rx7, and he has the same year as mine only his is a gxl) i know this topic is for the beeping noise but i guess i rather kill two birds with one stone.

fc3s4utnv 09-29-2008 05:42 PM

Sincros are probably out in it, my was rebuilt about 25k ago, and it grinds in third. New shifter wouldnt hurt anything, or just replace the bushings in your stock one.

cool thanks ill do that...well i definitley know its the power steering because sometimes when i take a turn, the beeping stops for like 2min and then it goes on again...(or my favorite, drive 30mins home from work hearing that beeping noise and it finally goes away as soon as i park on my driveway lol)...yea if its prolly that then ill just get it rebuilt and ill put a short shifter and bushings in myself...ok one more question i promise...one last headache...my windshield wipers...hi and regular work, but intermediate doesnt work as good. It will do like one wipe and then it will freeze up untill i put the regular or high wiper setting...my dad said that it could maybe be a recall mazda had on the 87's...is that true and is there some way to fix it?

Seppuku 09-30-2008 03:36 PM

No recall on wipers, all of them have the issue eventualy. You can try and resolder it or buy a new switch.

fc3s4utnv 09-30-2008 07:46 PM

The beeping should go away when you stop moving.... since your power steering is speed sensitive.... get a wiper switch from an s5 car they are a lot less likely to have the infamous problem

cool..ima have to try and do that then...ok i think i finally figured out why the car is beeping...i forgot to mention that i was trying to install a aftermarket steering wheel (which did not really go so well aka didnt fit) so i put the stock one back on...maybe the steering sensor or something is out of alignment and i gotta take off the steering wheel and line it back up...this would make sense since the car didnt make the noise b4 until i tried to put on the aftermarket steering wheel...hmmm i should prolly try to look at it today...

fc3s4utnv 10-01-2008 07:40 PM

you should have marked it before you pulled it off.... whats wrong with the stock steering wheel?

hell yea...its my first RX7 but i cant believe how fast is it...i currently have a cone filter on but wow it is fast...so far ive beat 2 civics, a 91 prelude with a b20 swap, a 2005 v6 accord, a mercury cougar v6, and a 98 mitsubishi galant...and only lost to a bmw 545i....and mines is a NA...so im betting that the Tll's can smoke some really fast cars out there...

hey that reminds me...would GXL axles and brakes fit on a SE? both are the same year...( because now i have 2 rx7's at my house and i want the 4 piston brakes from the GXL onto my car...i also wanna do a 5 lug swap so i can mount some nice 17" rims)

fc3s4utnv 10-06-2008 07:13 PM

You will have to do the 5 lug swap to get the front brakes on there, I believe the rear brakes are the same...

yea cause i was gonna do the 5 lug conversion all around...that way ill be able to get these nice rims i found for my car...it makes my rx7 literally look like a hot wheels car...does the 5 lug swap include swaping the axles as well?

i think im gonna try swapping out the power steering computer off the GXL on to my car because i spent like an hour aligning the steering wheel back to the correct position and i still get that beeping noise...
