well what i was thinking was right anyway, plates werent closing, i just figured it was the screw holding them open, its one of those things were id have to actually see it, gotta check all the spots the linkage stops on.

cutting out at 5-6k? at WOT? like stumble on its face fuel cut kinda thing or something else?

kevin.

yup 5-6k at WOT.

its like a nasty rev limiter. bounces off it and the car just bucks.

its intermittant though.

yesterday, i drove it around, it did the cutout thing on me.

hour later, drove it again, no more cutout.

few hours later, drove it again and its cutting out.

it also cuts out at lower rpms when under big load like a hill.

at the same time as its cutting out at WOT, it stumbles and misses pretty bad at part throttle cruising.

im about to pull the pump and check the sock, and maybe replace the inline fuel filter just to make sure cause thats the only thing i can think of that would make it act up like this.

teknics 12-14-2007 04:43 PM

hows your wires and coils?

kevin.

Remember Lee your car is like 20 years old.

This means your fuel pump is 20 years old, and the sock has 20 years of dirt and **** on it. Anything else that's original, is like 20 years old. So think about all the little **** that can happen to stuff that's 20 years old.

Don't get too frustrated. Your car is doing pretty awesome for being 20 years old.

PS ditch the stock ECU, it's gay. Consequently, AFMs are also gay.

Leetheslacker 12-14-2007 11:26 PM

waitasecond.

i think it still has the walbro 255 in it from when it was boosted?

hmmm. ill have to check actually because i am not sure.

wires and coils should be fine. i have a set or two of spares so i guess i could swap and see.

but, before the tps adjustment, it cut out on high load and at 3k. after i adjusted the tps right it will randomly cut out at 5-6k for a period of time, and next time i drive it its gone only to come back the next enxt time i drive it kindof.. and when its doing that it bogs/cutsout/sputters at part throttle cruising.

before i got the idle sorted out, i went on a relatively long drive. about 30 minutes into it it was doing the part throttle sputtering at cruising highway speeds. parked it overnight, gone the next day.

so its something weird and intermittant? it feels like a fuel cut though. nasty rev limiter feeling.

and my car is 19. its as old as me. 1988 represent.

and i know the stock ecu and afm both blow. if i had the money i wouldve had a standalone yesterday.

Leetheslacker 12-14-2007 11:47 PM

nope stock pump. though it might be a turbo pump. who knows.

hmm

What is the weather like when you have intermittant failures?

I know it's winter for you but are you hanging around the freezing mark? If you are, that could indicate when its above freezing that you have moisture creeping around ignition components, causing poor spark or none at all.

However I doubt that's the problem since it seems to be mainly RPM related.. But the higher you go, the higher duty cycle of the ignition, so..

Have you tried installing new grounds on the coilpacks yet? And battery to chassis (NEW wires, not used ones)? If you haven't stop what you're doing and get it out of the way so you know all the components have good ground.

The higher the duty cycle, the higher requirement for optimal ground..

Leetheslacker 12-15-2007 02:19 PM

ive got grounds allllll over the place. one big chain of them actually.

battery in back to frame in back, to ecu case, through firewall to strut tower, to engine harness ground, to other strut tower, to one of the coil bolts, to the stock negative cable.

its been above freezing the whole time. it was actually quite warm when the first part throttle highway cruising stumble happened.

Leetheslacker 12-18-2007 04:54 PM

its definitely something with the fuel sock or fuel filter or the tank in general.

it does it reaaaal bad turning left, and the stumble at part throttle and cutting out at 5k didnt start until i made a hard left.

guess im pulling the pump and checking it out.
