does anyone know any ways to take off some good weight without gutting my interior? I have already taking out the AC and all of its components..is there anything else that i could get rid of that i dont really need to loose weight?

j9fd3s 01-17-2003 03:17 PM

ac, power steering, the windshield washers are like 20-40lbs, theres lots of plastic up in the front of the car too

Just eat a lot of salad. You don't have to "gut your interior." **** that sounds painful!

the front washer bottle is amazingly heavy, its at least 3x times heavier than you think it could possibly be

are you sure of this?

my buddy has one in his garage since he just repainted his engine bay and claims there's no way it weighs more than 5lbs, with the pump on it even.

perhaps you mean full of fluid?

Apex13B 01-18-2003 12:22 AM

step 1: Remove engine, transmission, and read diff assembly from car

step 2: cut hole in floor

step 3; buy rigging, a mast, and some sails

step 4: pray for wind

FCmaniac 01-18-2003 12:27 AM

You can switch to manual steering, get an aluminum hood, take off all the heatshields, air pump & emissions stuff, get lighter wheels and tires, put a piece of lexan in place of the sunroof if you have one and dont care... :mullet:

87RX7NA 01-18-2003 09:49 AM

Just wondering, but does 30 lbs make that big of a difference speedwise?

CrashFactory 01-18-2003 09:55 AM

i was told by some1 here that every 100lbs remove is .1 off yer 1/4 mile time now whether that's true or not, i dunno my car is still HEAVY https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

CrashFactory 01-18-2003 09:55 AM

BTW anyone ever had the back glass changed with something lighter? it's gotta way a coupla hudred by itself....

j9fd3s 01-18-2003 12:03 PM

JspecRX7 01-18-2003 10:45 PM

i have also seen carbon fiber hoods for 2 gens too. but they are way too exspensive.

87RX7NA 01-18-2003 10:57 PM

So, does the weight make that big of a difference?

teknics 01-18-2003 11:01 PM

get rid of your back rims and tires, run open axle cuts like 5 seconds off your 1/4

if you pull enough off yes it does. i doubt you would notice much under 80-100lbs though

You don't even feel the first 100lbs.But if you pull about 150-200 off what you usually drive with then you'll start to really notice it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

87RX7NA 01-19-2003 10:12 AM

In that case, I'll start kicking my fat passengers out :bigthumg:

j9fd3s 01-19-2003 12:07 PM

yup thats step one

mike

isamu 01-19-2003 02:56 PM

Pretty much what everybody else said: a/c, p/s, aluminum hood, etc. However there are a couple of other things you can do to get your weight down. Here are a couple of hard core racing weight saving tips:

1.) Remove unwanted body panels. They are just for looks anyways.

isamu 01-19-2003 03:02 PM

2.) You can do the "drivers seat mod." This would be a good time to upgrade to 4 point harnesses as well.

j9fd3s 01-19-2003 10:57 PM

damn thats hardcore!

87RX7NA 01-19-2003 11:16 PM

I would worry more about driving then picking flower petals.

Apex13B 01-20-2003 06:50 PM

buy some carbon sheet and learn how to make composites https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

fabricate any non strutural steel out of aluminum instead. get rid of those wings, buy light rims and aluminum racing coil-over shocks, clean the car out (no system), and start losing weight yourself

ppl beat me all the time cuz i'm tall (6'4") and heavy (280lbs)

i just gotta eat my twinkies :bigok:

Rob x-7 01-20-2003 06:53 PM

you fat ****

Rob x-7 01-20-2003 06:53 PM

correction- you big fat ****

FCmaniac 01-20-2003 07:14 PM

280, I already have a tenth on you in the quarter I guess

USNALAX1 01-21-2003 08:01 AM

weight reduction will help big time in autocross. it i'll help you get through the turns alot faster! but if your going to do autocross keep you powersteering!

87RX7NA 01-21-2003 09:11 AM

Hell, i didn't have power steering to begin with. The original owner didn't feel the need for that "option". Oh well, I would've probably taken it off anyways.
