Yah, what he said.

CrazyAssRX7 01-25-2003 04:57 PM

I have never changed it before

what is it?

just taking out the fan, moving the belts and.....?

anything i should cautious about???

Rob x-7 01-25-2003 05:31 PM

just to make sure you clean the gasket surface real good

and install the new gasket properly as well.

CrazyAssRX7 01-25-2003 06:42 PM

that wouldve been bad cuz i didnt even know that another gasket was needed

wow i feel dumb

Rob x-7 01-26-2003 04:05 PM

do you have metric tools?

j9fd3s 01-26-2003 05:11 PM

CrazyAssRX7 01-27-2003 10:17 AM

I think i have enough to do the job

which ones do i need?

j9fd3s 01-27-2003 10:59 AM

you need 10mm for the fan, 10mm for the pulleys, 10,12, 14, 17, 19? to get the belts off, then 12mm to pull the pump off. the only tricky part is that there is a gasket between the water pump housing and the engine, and you need to be careful to not seperate it without noticing.

Rob x-7 01-27-2003 05:56 PM

a mechanic will probably charge you about $65 to do the job, maybe

bring it to one.

j9fd3s 01-27-2003 06:13 PM

or you could do that https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

CrazyAssRX7 01-28-2003 01:32 PM

From what ive heard i guess what im going to do is just let my mech do it cuz i dont want to mest up and like rob said not finishing and then not being able to take it to a mech

but where so i get this pump from??.....not mazda

Rob x-7 01-28-2003 05:16 PM

any auto parts store, check with a auto parts store to see how much the pump is, then call your mechanic and see how much he would charge to do the pump and supply it.

CrazyAssRX7 01-29-2003 07:17 AM

well i got the quote and the water pump is 85 $$$

is it worth it to get a new or just go ahead and get a used one for a lot less?????

the mech will be pretty cheap

Rob x-7 01-29-2003 04:15 PM

get a new one, no way would I bother putting a used water pump on.

CrazyAssRX7 01-30-2003 05:56 PM

yeah ill prolly do that

but the thermostat is that neccesary???

should i really replace it???

the thermostat is a cheap part, and only get the OEM one, don't bother with something from autozone etc... it will just make your life miserable.

It's worth changing because it's a cheap part that can really suck to have fail, and you will have the system open anyways with the pump off, might as well.

CrazyAssRX7 02-01-2003 07:21 PM

pengaru 02-01-2003 07:21 PM

from mazda of course https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

visit the mazda dealer parts department.

Apex13B 02-01-2003 09:53 PM

or you can have mazdatrix ship it to your mechanic if a mazda dealer is not nearby

(look at the top of the page)

pengaru 02-01-2003 11:49 PM

yeah that works too, but paying shipping on a part you can probably find local is kindof silly...
