When I take off the oil filler cap on my car i get little droplets of water in the cap. Sometimes there is also condensation on the dipstick. If the engine is warm, it sometime steams a little.

obviously, this is bad, but how bad is it and where could the water be coming from? No oil is leaking out but somehow water is getting in. The engine was rebuilt about 3000 miles ago so i don't think coolant is leaking out of the block unless i screwed something up with one of the seals. There is also no oil in the coolant. i guess maybe its water coming up off the road but any ideas how its getting in?

Thats normal if its just a small amount. Don't worry about it.

it's probably just condensation. When did you last change your oil?

about 500 miles ago

If you can tell its water, its not bad. If you see a grey nasty gooey mucas in the oil or the coolant is when you have problems. As mentioned before, the water you see is probably condensation.

its almost impossible for a rotary to put water into the oil.

okay, thanks. its probably not a problem then.
