I see this listed as a mod to some Rx7 owners...my question is...how do you port a stock wastegate????

You just remove it and grind the hole.

Hmm...that just doesn't seem like anything though, lol...I guess I'll do that when I remove the turbo next week for some other work. Does it really help that much? Or does it just make it louder?

It's supposed to help prevent boost creep. Try looking for a how-to on the web. K2RD used to have one, but I can't find it.

Doesn't porting a wastegate give you more boost too? Also, I thought a stock wastegate on the turbo has something like a door that opens more for more boost and less for less boost. Doesn't this door thing control how much to boost?

No. Porting the wastegate helps control boost creep. The only function the wastegate has is to control boost.

More specifically, the wastegate lets your exhaust gases bypass the turbo to keep the turbo spinning at a given speed, thus controlling your boost. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

i have a ported wastegate on my T2...the previous owner said he did it when he took the turbo off to rebuild it. my guess is that this significantly cut down the boost cause i have intake, downpipe, midpipe, no cats, and RP catback (although only 50mm) and i don't hit fuel cut at all. never have. so thats good. i think by porting it, it dropped the boost a bit, but that can always be raised and controlled by the user. i don't have a real boost gauge yet but i'm guessing i'm only running stock boost...but the car is definatly quicker than stock...good luck dude

Isn't the difference more on the S4, because the S5 already has a better WG?
