ok i guarantee NO ONE has ever done what i did to fix my wastegate problem (INSANE amounts of boost creep as if the wastegate wasnt opening)

i was changing my oil and filter today and looked at my drivers side engine mount. when something struck me and i looked closer. the nut and washer holding the mount to the frame/car left a trail of movement in some grease that had built up on the mount. this OBVIOUSLY is a bad thing, so i went to see how loose the nut was... i SPUN it by barely touching it.

determined that was a horrible thing indeed, grabbed a 14mm and torqued the **** down until i thought the wrench was gonna snap.

got in the car and WOOHOO no more vibrations.

i then forgot about it and went inside and took a nap.

came out, went on highway, and took off and went thru 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. i thought my car sounded awfully loud and 3rd gear felt longer then normal (ive become used to using the boost gauge as a tach by just shifting at 10psi no matter what the rpm to save my engine from overboost) so i gracefully glanced at the tach at the same moment the redline buzzer went off. I almost jumped out the sunroof, i had redlined 3rd and never gone over 10psi.

so the solution to my ongonig wastegate problem? tighten the engine mount.

i think the torquing of the engine would cause it to slant hard (sliding in the mount) when it would do this a weird geometry would be formed between the actuator, actuator rod and wastegate causing it to only be able to open slightly. That's the theory at least.

hmmm what does the engine mount gotta do with your wastegate though?

sheepskin seat covers? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

well cool

cool...hope it stays fixed https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

but was it mostly the high rpm 4th gear load that was creeping?: From the Evo8 kill:

"i actually reeled fourth out dangerously till i was at 17psi "

every gear did that

3rd would reline at about 15psi, 4th around 17psi.

ill test 4th sometime, but i dont normally redline it on the average trip.

and yes sheepskin seat covers are way 1337.

wanta be boosted 01-03-2004 10:35 AM

I don't see how it could mess up the geometry between your wastegate/actuator, because they are both made to the turbo for that to happen the acctuator would have to be made to the car.

Maybe there was a vacume line pinched somewere and you unkinked it, without knowing. I'm not to sure, but I can't believe the motor mount had anything to do with it.

wow yea completely ignored the fact that all thigns are on the turbo.
