Well hopefully if im lucky ill be picking up a 88 RX-7 shell. Ive been lookin for one for a couple weeks now, and this morning I posted on here asking if anyone around had one. Well I went out driving for awhile tonight and stopped at a couple shops. The 2nd shop I stopped at no one was there just a phone number on the window. well I walked out back and there she sat. No motor, full interior. Needs a passanger door. But other then that it seems solid. I am going back tomorrow to take a look at the underside.

If thats good ill have the car this weekend and ill start the tear down.

THe plans so far are this.

1.Fully Strip

2.Start exterior bodywork

3.Repair any rust

4.Repair anything on interior

5.Repair anything wrong in the engine bay

6.Repair Jams

7.Cut firewall out,

8.Replace with JDM firewall

9.RHD Conversion

10.JDM Motor

11.Bodykit

12.Suspension

13.Seats and harnesses

14.repaint brand new color =]

15.Carbon Fiber hood? Maybe

16.Brakes

17.Rims

Also there will be performance, but without doing research yet IDK where to start on motor work.

There has to be more i wanna do but right at the moment thats all I can think of.. So whats everyone think so far. This is gonna be the first major conversion for our custom shop so I figurd out why not do my own vehicle first...

Pictures of the project tomorrow prolly

lamar- 10-02-2007 10:02 PM

j0rd4n 10-02-2007 10:59 PM

where are you located? i'm trying to figure out the purpose of going RHD, unless you're just a 2fast2furious kid who wants a blue ground effects kit as well https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

Im in NY. Purpose for me going RHD, is because I like everything I do to be different. RIght now I drive a 01 GTI withJetta front end conversion. and shaved rear emblem, shaved antenna, shaved hood notch, shaved front bumper, molded GLI Lip

So yea I wanna be different, im in NY near Binghamton. and all the work will be going down this winter in the garage, ill take pictures of everything for everyone.

O And no underglow

jwteknix 10-03-2007 12:57 PM

well im about 20 min past bing near sidney... bUT I go to college inBinghamton at BCC

teknics 10-03-2007 04:59 PM

no offense, but doing a RHD conversion is no longer original. theyve now moved on to "center seat drive" conversions.

anyway, thats a pretty generic "to-do" list... might want some more detail there.

on a side note, i have 60 acres in Windsor, NY, just outside of binghamton...and its on the susquehana.

kevin.

very cool

I know ill change the list when I get going but right now its just that simple un explained list. No one here has a RHD anything so here im hoping that with doing this, it will give me some experience to do my buddies 240sx and maybe get some outside work later on.

Rob x-7 10-22-2007 10:43 AM

im in the "business" myself, I would have found a better project car.

you will want to swap the brakes and hubs out on that car, it has red interior, which is hideous in the

condition it is in.

you could have bought a S5 car with a much nicer interior and better brakes for cheap and be way ahead of the game.

maybe look for another shell now as that one will nickle and dime you to death

but if you know of a S5 with black interior for under 700 bucks i would love to know... =]

One320B 10-22-2007 03:07 PM

Yep - that's an SE alright.

Swapping the brakes is actually optional depending on your goals. Even after my conversion and years of dealing with 5 lug FC friends knocking on the 4 lug, I've have found plenty of resources. You can get 8 piston big brake kits for the 4 lug pattern. The biggest issue (and one of the ONLY reasons I would switch) is it does limit your wheel selection. You can fit the standard "ricer" size, but to get some meat down on a 500HP + car you'll need to step up. I will probably at some point abandon the 4 lug system because of this.

Other things to note, you dont need to "cut out the firewall". If you look at the firewall, you can see where the steering column, etc passes through on the RHD. The RX7 was built in japan - they didnt just make a different firewall for the north american market, they simply "punched out" the necessary holes, etc.

That car also seems like it either had/was going to hav a v8 in it - so as long as you put a rotary back under the hood, I could care less what you do w/ it.

Being an SE though - you will want more than a JDM front clip - get the tranny, driveshaft, rear end, etc as well. Have DEEEP pockets too....

it had a v8 in there. Guy blew it up I guess

dubsrwe 10-22-2007 03:37 PM

why go 5 lug other than if you want wide wheels that are allso bling, go to www.aeroracewheel.com they have some 13's and 15's that go anywere from 7 to 10'' wide with any backspace you want.

Rob x-7 10-22-2007 06:01 PM

with a list like this:

1.Fully Strip

2.Start exterior bodywork

3.Repair any rust

4.Repair anything on interior

5.Repair anything wrong in the engine bay

6.Repair Jams

7.Cut firewall out,

14.repaint brand new color =]

15.Carbon Fiber hood? Maybe

16.Brakes

why would you NOT go 5 lug?

dash is only a small part of the interior, do you plan on dying the carpet and all the rest of the plastics inside the car, or

are you going for that stripped down look?

lamar- 10-22-2007 08:23 PM

if someone can find me one with a decent body for 700 or so ill take it.. Ifits a bit more whatever

Electric 10-26-2007 11:06 AM

5 lug conversion isnt too hard, I traded my T-bird for a s4 with a 5 lug conversion on the front lol I've gotta do the back when I get it with the supplied parts from the previous owner.

Anyway, sounds like a good plan...I think shifting with your left hand would be weird as **** too lol and left turns will be a nightmare.

One320B 10-26-2007 11:32 AM

I've driven RHD on a few occasions - the hardest thing for me was backing into a parking space, lol - I always ended WAY to close to the right hand side.

Everything else is pretty normal. At some point I'd love to have a RHD FD....
