Can enyone or everyone tell me what to look for when buying a older used RX (Good sounds ,Bad sounds ya know what I saying) Plus,

I was told not to buy one becuase you have to rebuild the engine every 50,000 miles or so. Is that true?

Is one Gen. better (less prone to problems) then another or least expensive to maintain?

Can you put a turbo on a non-turbo car?

Well, a rotary is just like any other engine in that it depends on the maintence on how long the engine will last you. If you maintain the engine properly, you can get 200k miles out of them. Oil changes are the biggest thing with a rotary, every 3000 miles with a good weight/quality oil.



As for the generations, I am sure that someone else can give you more info, but from what I understand 2nd generation non-turbos will be the least maintenance.



You can put a turbo on a non-turbo with lots of custom work.

I would ask to see the car while the engine is still cold, and watch out the exaust for excessive smoke. Sounds, eh, they either run or they dont, I dont think they give sounds off like a piston engine where they will knock or tap. I have 152,000 miles on mine, and it had a hard life before I got it due to the woman who owned it died and her son beat the crap out of it. If you keep them stock, they are very reliable, even with some modifications, I had a 1st generation carburated, and now a 2nd generation, and neither have given me any problems at all. You CAN put a turbo on a non-turbo, but its not too easy to do, I would opt for the supercharger, or a turbo engine conversion, or just hold out for a Turbo II.
