Ok, so while trying to track down my idle issue w/ my conversion..rx7cms and roadkill669 came by today to play w/ the se-x. Rx7cms has a '90gxl parts car that we took the CAS out of a few days ago to swap with the jspec unit that is in my car, cuz the jspec one always seemed to have a really tight fit and it had no parts # on it..kinda odd. Not to mention I wanted to be sure it wasnt my CAS causing some problems...

so i pull the jspec unit out and compare it to the aspec unit..what did find..A DIFFERENCE...never before have i heard of jspec CAS being different the aspc units..but sure enough they were. The aspec unit was about 2mm smaller at the base around the oil ring then the jspec and the teeth for the bottom gear were smaller as well.

To be sure it wasnt a difference between NA and T2 CAS...we compared the '90GXL one to roadkill669's T2 one..they were the exact same! Then maybe we thought there was a difference between the s4 and the s5 versions...checked the parts number sure enough both were N360. So this concludes that Mazda uses the same CAS for all FCs in america..NA, Turbo, s4 or s5 doesnt make a difference....but they DO for SOME reason use a larger diam. one on jspec engines...Y? I dont know, but here are some pics to help u out...

first on is just the side by side comparison of the gears at the bottom. Jspec on left, aspec on right(i know the jspec is a lil closer to the camera giving it a larger look..but it is indeed larger)...

And here is the aspec one...almost 2mm smaller...

pretty fucked up huh? Needless to say..the jspec one is now sitting in the garage as the aspec one is li ving comfortably in its new home..the Se-X front cover..or chest as i call it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif ....

holy sheeeoott dude, my j-spec doesn't have a cas, and I was goin to use my a-spec s4 one. Will it not work right??? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

Well I don't remember having a problem w/ my jspec cas in the jspec front cover.

The plugs will match and it will fit..it'll actually probably be easier to fit it in...

my car may have just been some oddball fluke too,lol...i hate how mazda seems to do the flukes!

vosko 10-07-2003 11:23 PM

all the ones i have seen were the same

mazdadrifter 10-07-2003 11:32 PM

I'm might have to borrow that j-spec from you! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

let me see how mine works, I mean if it's smaller it might fit, but I don't want any slop in my cas

That's cool...if you want it, just pm..i'll sell it cheap...it does work too, i just wanted to be sure it wasnt the problem..

so basically the aspec cas would be a little loose in a jspec front cover and who knows about how the gear would mesh?
