I'm in the process of trouble shooting and I'm wondering what do fluff does the variable resistor do????

It's a little knob near the air box and has an L and an R on it...

what the fluff does it do and how do I test it.

Thats the idle mixture screw, L = lean R = rich. Don't mess with it, thats why its filled in w/ black crap from the factory. If u screw with it you can get horrible gas mileage and u would need another one to set it back to be sure. I don't know how to test it.

HOLY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIAAAAAATTT!!!!!!

my car has been on the fritz and my air fuel meter has been reading lean ever since I got it back from the body shop....and I never noticed the variable resisitor till I got it back...and the only reason it stood out is because it didn't have any kind of cap on it.

well I gotta go see it that was the trouble (after work)and if it is the problem............I will head over to the body shop with my goons, bats, and a chainsaw...

thanx

Well I've adjusted it once because when bought my car I went to a Mazda dealer shop to get the idle speed adjusted. When I got back home, I ended up with the 1988RedT2's problem in his post on April 4 ("Idle problem"). I was watching when the mechanic worked on it, and he messed up with this variable resistor.

I used two 12-volt lamps that you connect in a test connector under the hood (I don't remember which one) and it gives you indication of which direction to turn the crew if ever. I don't remember exactly, it's 12 years ago. But I could track down the info if you really need to test it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

I must admit I was wrong. This test with lamps is for throttle sensor adjustment and I remember how to do it. But I can't remember the way you can check and adjust the variable resistor, but I did once.

You can check out the factory manuals at both http://www.fc3s.org and http://www.iluvmyrx7.com .

Thanks alot 13BAce, this is great. :sigh:

Now I remember, that was in the factory manual that I saw the way to adjust variable resistor, a long time ago. I borrowed it from my Mazda dealer then.

Being able to access them online is a great thing. It helps out since my friends have 2 of my 3 manuals. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png

Yeah, I've been looking for them on the web for a while, but they're not easy to find or I was looking in the wrong direction.
