So I recently did my emissions removal with 5/6th port semi-removal. And now I have a vacuum leak that I can't find. I have new gaskets on everything except the omp which I rtv'd the crap out of. I kept the BAC. It runs and drives, just won't idle. I have all the vacuum nipples capped, that did to be. I am absolutely stumped. Any ideas?? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.gif

check the lower intake gasket, i have seen some people put them on backwards and it creats a v- leak

Will do. Thanks

did that once.. it sucked. the carb cleaner spray trick works too.

if i where a vacuum leak i would hide somewhere you couldn't find ! ! !

Use carb cleaner and go to town on the engine. listen for varying rpm's

bouncing idle could also be caused by a looped line or tps neeeds to be readjusted

nvrdone 04-23-2008 10:57 AM

I wish it was a bouncing idle. It won't idle, cold, when you first start it, it idles around a 1000rpms for maybe 30secs, after it drops under it dies. I have empty 2 bottles of carb cleaner already, and wasted a pack of my buddies cig's trying to find this. I did notice some fuel under the manifold that I assumed was from when I took of the secondary fuel rail but I'm going to check that out 2day.

nvrdone 04-23-2008 12:30 PM

So I had a loose hose clamp on the primary fuel rail. But that didn't help.

hillbilly 04-26-2008 10:28 PM

well, I swapped my fuel lines when I did my emissions removal! that threw me for one helluva loop. it would crank crank crank crank and sputter. so I'd crank and crank and crank on it some more...

nvrdone 04-27-2008 12:28 AM

You can here the leak at 1700rpms. But we can't find it, which is probably what makes me the madest cuz I can hear it plain as day.

Find a mechanic with one of these

http://www.toolfetch.com/Brand/OTC/Automot...ols/OTC6521.htm

This is the best-effing-leak-detection-device ever! Plug it in, find the leak. Wala!

It took less than 2 minutes to find the 2 bad gaskets in my CYM. It is obvious as heck where they are with this device.

A lot of mechanics use them now. It should'nt be hard to find a place that has one. GL!

nvrdone 04-28-2008 12:16 PM

What do you guys use as a gasket for the omp blockoff plate. Cause I have red rtv on it, lots of it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif. Its the only thing with rtv and I have checked everything so I'm coming up with it being that. Is the black rtv better suited for this?

That is why I borrow the one my mechanic has lol

defprun 05-03-2008 01:55 PM

My 5th and 6th ports are rusted up/seazed up it might be why my car's idle is so rough when cold...(might be causing a small vaccuum leak)...i cant even tell if they are seazed open or shut!

nvrdone 05-03-2008 09:15 PM

So I don't really know what I did but I fixed it. I pulled off the intake and fuel rail and injectors and I put it back together and poof. It works.

I wish I knew though just in case it ever happens again. I'm guessing something wasn't on correctly, injector cocked a little or something... who knows
