Car: '87 TurboII
Problem: My car refuses to charge its battery at all, even after an hour of driving. The battery is new, but hasn't been ruled out as the problem. I checked the alternator by disconnecting the negative battery cable and the car ran fine, but it stumbled a little when I turned the lights on, so I think the voltage regulator may be shot, but IMO, it should still charge the battery. So, since I need to get this car back to Iowa on Monday, list off anything you think could keep my battery from charging. |
Battery cables, alternator, regulator, elves or gremlins.... and of course a hex or curse.

alt is #1, battery #2, connections #1!
you might wanna clean the battery terminals and the 2 wires on the underhood fusebox that go to the main fuse |
I'm going to get the battery charged/tested tomorrow, and also replace the terminals. The previous owner did a bunch of wiring, so that'll be fun to check.

one time my gounding bolt on the strut wasn't tight..........

Make sure the two wire plug in the back is fully connected/ or been cut off by old age. When you switch the ignition key to on, does the idiot lights light up or not?

The only idiot light we've seen so far was the washer fluid light, and the brake light when the e-brake is pulled.
We put a new battery and terminals on there today and all is well so far, but there are still some problems with voltage drops. We'll have to check that out when we get a chance....Kelly is very anxious to help work on this car. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png Oh, and it's fast... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
