as expected, i love my second gen and naturally want to make it faster. i have a huge list of things to do, but can only do so much this summer. two weeks ago the front of my car got banged up, and since it has to be repainted, i figured i would get a cool new front bumper/spoiler, a new rear spoiler, and a fresh air head light cover. do yall have any suggestions on where i can get this stuff. i know where to find the head light, but i cant find much of a variety on exterior mods.

also, i plan on doing some performence mods. last summer i had the engine rebuilt and reported (6 port), and currenly have modified air intake and tokico hp's for shocks. i was thinking rb headers, presilencer, and cat back. any suggestions? also, if i increase the exhaust flow and intake flow with a headlight opening, will i need to get a new ecu? i know carberated engine adjust naturally, but what about fuel injected? i just want to get the max hp out of my NA engine.

the racingbeat setup is GREAT. its costs a good bit but its excellent. very nice fit and finish. you will see a huge powergain. i highly recommend it. caution your car will be really loud https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Check www.erebunicorp.com www.rxecret7.com for body kits. As for the performance...go with RB headers, presilencer, and the APEXi N1 dual or GReddy catback(better then the RB for both performance and looks). The 5th and 6th ports won't operate properly after this and you'll need to wire 'em open. The fresh air intake cover is more for looks then anything else...if you want a better intake setup, just relocate the filter in front of the radiator near your hood latch(best cold air spot under the hood). You won't need a new ECU with these mods. If you go with big fuel mods and a big port job...then you may. What did you mean about report? Is your motor ported...like streetport, bridge, etc? If you do the intake and exhaust, I'd recommend upgrading to turboII secondary injectors and running some NOS if you wanna really get up there, lol...

the six port job is kind of different. changes to the main 2 ports, not too much done with the actuator ports. cost like $300 extra when i got my engine rebuilt. there's more info on this at mazdatrix.com.

what about this wiring open the 5th and 6th ports? rb webpage says they have presilencers for 6 port engines, including an extra outlet for the port actuator.

quote from page:

"The 1986-92 RX-7 turbo and non-turbo Power Pulse Presilencers are manufactured with a larger diameter 2.5-inch I.D. core pipe for improved exhaust gas flow. Additionally, the Power Pulse Presilencers we offer for use with non-turbo 1986-92 6-port engines feature the backpressure sensing tube necessary for proper operation of the 6-port actuator valves."

you can also see it in the picture.

Rotaryman88 04-26-2002 04:41 PM

Oh, nevermind then...I forgot RB had the backpressure tube built in...

Okay, so ive been taking everyone's suggestions and now my project is rising over $8000, lol. but, that's what a summer job is for, that and prolonging my college dreams for two more summers, then... :lachuh: i will have money and my hobby will reach full fruition (i think that's the word).

either way, ive been checking out some exhaust stuff and was wondering a couple of things:

1 - how hard is it to put this stuff on myself? i was kind of interested in that mazdatrix race system, with road race headers, dual pre-silencers, and hks exhaust. i mean, is it just bolt on and a few tack weld or what.

2 - how loud is it and how much power. i mean, i live in texas and they dont do emission tests, just kind of look under the car for leaks and stuff. will i pass my inspection with this stuff, and how annoying will my car sound?

just a few questions.

No welding required, If you can use simple hand tools then you can put the exhaust on yourself (you might want to find a lucky friend to help, it'll go faster).

The exhaust will be pretty damn loud. Is this the system you are wanting....

That is what I have on my vert, and I get followed and pulled over alot. It has a great gain in power though, mazdatrix claims a 28% hp gain.

RX7Aggie 04-30-2002 08:20 AM

ever any tickets or anything? mazdatrix has their road race headers listed at $200, while the RB headers are only like $140 or so. would it be better just to build my own from each component?

also, i noticed mazdatrix has a single presilencer system with a header collector. does anyone know how good this system is for power and noise?

LUV, i noticed you took out the worthless plastic lenses on the front bumper, possiblly to increase airflow to the engine and intake. does anyone make any cool metal mesh inserts for that? i mean, ive seen modified front bumpers that dont even include those lenses, but what about some cool insert?

ILUVMY88CABRIO 04-30-2002 02:36 PM

I've gotten 2 tickets for my exhaust. A couple of weeks ago I made some plugs to shove into my exhaust tips, and it made a MAJOR difference. I think that it is cheaper to just buy the whole kit. I bought the header, the pipe that bolts to the header, the 2 pre-silencers, and the pipe that comes off the pre-silencer. Then I bought 2 "rice" mufflers. Made 2 exhaust flanges, and had a muffler shop do the rest. All said and done, it cost me over $1300 to do it. I wish I'd just spent the $1400 for the complete kit.

Yes I took out the FTP lenses, both were cracked and would fog up.I like the way it looks like that, but I don't think that it helps too much as a cold air intake.

RX7Aggie 04-30-2002 04:21 PM

what kind of exhaust did you put on? what exactly were those tickets for, excessive noise violation. what did the cop say, just curious.

i like the whole taking out the lense thing. My 86 got backed into, and one shattered. i want to get a new front bumper on it, and ill probably just leave them out. maybe i can find some metal mesh some where and make some inserts.
