hay guys i think my car is flooded cuz im smelling gas and it wont start..i know that to unflood it you need to take off the spark plugs but.... the guy that i got my motor from put on some spark plugs that i cant fit a socket in between the wall and the plug so i was wondering if theres any other way to get it unflooded.?

Shane.Trammell 08-04-2005 01:52 PM

you dont have to take out the plugs, but it is recommended that you change them after it gets flooded. to unflood take the EGI fuse out of the main fuse block and crank it for about 10 seconds then stop. the first time crank it for 10 seconds 2 or 3 times then put the fuse back in and see if it will start. if it doesnt start try it again but only do 1 ten second cranking before letting off and putting the fuse back in to try to start it.

i think mazdatrix sells a special socket for your spark plug problem

oh, this will kill your battery, make sure you have some cables and someone to give you a jump. also, make sure you dont crank for longer than about 10 seconds, its bad for the starter.

mail-man 08-04-2005 02:01 PM

okay ill go try it thanks alot man

1988RedT2 08-04-2005 02:06 PM

Yah, back when my car would have trouble with hot restarts I pulled the fuse and cranked it all the time. Pretty much every time I got gas. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

Life is much better now with the cleaned/new injectors and the Haltech. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

theres the page with that socket. Ive never had that problem with either car so i dont know what circumstances cause it, like which spark plugs, engines, etc. Ive always used the stock plugs and a normal socket

mail-man 08-04-2005 02:54 PM

yea but its 75 bucks umm ok the fuze is the green one right and im sopost to take it off and tehn try starting it for 10 sec tehn put back on and try turning it on and if it does turn on try it again right jsut makin sure

Just pull the 6 wire connector under the steering column, it's the fuel pump relay connector. Crank the motor over until she catches and quickly plug teh connector back in.

BTW you don't need new plugs just take a propane torche and clean the tips with the flame.

mail-man 08-04-2005 03:33 PM

ok so that 6 wire is like connected to this yellow hook up right ?

Shane.Trammell 08-04-2005 04:01 PM

yeah its a black and yellow relay but its kind of a pain to get to.

once you know where it is you can crank with one hand and operate the plug with the other

BoneT2&Harmony 08-04-2005 06:59 PM

its 21mm socket. but i use a 2 dollar adjustable wrench

Cheers! 08-04-2005 08:11 PM

here is a 2nd tip. If your car is flooded. Find a nice big batter to boost your car with. Say a minivan or pickup. That will help increase the cranking speed and you have a better chance of it starting sooner.

Rob x-7 08-04-2005 09:39 PM

or use a battery charger on the jump or boost setting

ryderx 08-04-2005 10:24 PM

i got tired of pulling my fuses so i cut the middle wire on that yellow box and put a switch on it, then mounted the switch on the plastic, when i shut off the car i just flip the switch to kill it then when im starting it turn it back on and it fires right up!

HeffSpooled 08-05-2005 06:07 PM

The one thing I didn't read in all that good advice was.........

Keep the throttle to the floor. This helps when clearing the chambers and will likely get it started w/o doing anything else.

If your car has hot-start flooding issues, hold the foot to the firewall from the get-go every time. You want to introduce extra air for all that extra fuel.

It used to work for me every time and my compression was probably in the 60s.

Cheers

Rob x-7 08-05-2005 07:13 PM

I forget which series that works for, but it doesnt work for both series

HeffSpooled 08-05-2005 07:36 PM

I'm talking about physically holding the throttle plates open, not the S5 switch on the floor. People always say that and I always forget to clarify in my post.

Rob x-7 08-05-2005 07:48 PM

doesnt that require 2 people?

Cheers! 08-05-2005 08:44 PM

Rob, you got those things to work? I had one of those portable ones (about the size of a mini cooler) and whenever I cranked the car over the thing would trip internally thus never giving me extra juice. I returned it the next day.

THe only ones I find that work that are chargers as well are those honking ones the size of a mini fridge that are on a dolly.

They are supposed to be for series 5. But I find it only works for moderately flooded engines. For bad engines it doesn't do squat

Apollorx7 08-05-2005 09:41 PM

I agree with cheers. Your best bet is to pull the fuses and crank the motor for 5-10 seonds. It can take a while. I had to do this about 5-6 times before it started up.

mail-man 08-06-2005 03:28 AM

ok so all i do is take the green one out a try craking it for 5-10 sec then put it back in?

nwfc3s 08-06-2005 03:39 AM

happens to me too... i jst push start it...

blue_87_gxl 08-06-2005 08:00 AM

happened to my NA a few times the plug under the dash works but after doing the one where you pull the plug and hold the pedal to the floor seemed to work better, my T2 has a plus hooked up under the dash to stop the signal for the rare cases it does it so i sort of lucked out there.

and yeah it may take a few times to get it to where itll start so be patient
