vosko 06-28-2002 10:34 PM

87-88 should be the same housing. 89-91 are a different casting

chronicspeed 06-28-2002 11:03 PM

isamu 06-28-2002 11:27 PM

Hey, post us a pic of the housing if you can. That would be cool.

vosko 06-28-2002 11:33 PM

they shouldn't be chrome.. per say. shiny is normal though

isamu 06-28-2002 11:38 PM

If you have them gold plated, you are guaranteed a photo shoot in Lowrider Magazine. :bigok:

Oh mighty one, do you know if anyone has ever been able to reapply the chromium to the housings after it's wore off or is it just impossible?

horn4858 06-29-2002 10:46 AM

if you can slap it on once, you can slap it on again. The cost of removing it all then levelling it and then reapplying the coat would be more than a new one, hence no reman for the housings.

horn4858 06-29-2002 02:14 PM

thanks i got video cam for fathers day better than nothing. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

I agree with you. I've heard that in Japan Mazda will resurface side housings and use that nitriding process on it again.

rxseven 06-29-2002 07:23 PM

Yeah i heard all the factory rebuilds have the side plates resurfaced and new housings. So why do people buy rebuilds from anyone else? I believe the factory rebuilds are also under $2k? Can this all be true????

vosko 06-29-2002 07:34 PM

you aren't guaranteed anything except new seals on a mazda rebuild

rxseven 06-29-2002 07:42 PM

Damn, I knew it was too good to be true.

They're actually very good nowadays. I bought a dealer motor for the 91 coupe, and it runs really well. 3rd gen motors may have fewer new parts.

well if everyone turns in totally blown engines you have to get a new engine everytime but i don't think that's the case

horn4858 06-30-2002 09:37 PM

believe it or not we got good housing for 10$ shipping was 15$

dwmax2014 07-01-2002 01:40 AM

the local mazda dealer parts guy told me something about the remans being chrome plated on the inside. guess you wouldnt know without taking it apart.

isamu 07-01-2002 10:05 AM

I think all the housings are chrome plated on the inside. One of the Junkyard housings I bought had apparently been overheated BAD! The chrome inside was separating from the rest of the housing. You could barely tell, but on one corner it was sticking out.
