Hey. I just recently purchased my RX-7 about a month ago. It's the first rotary I've ever had. I know just about anything with a piston engine.. but the rotary is a lot different and I'm trying to learn as much as possible. So to the point of this Topic.. My N/A engine is **** right now.. for some strange reason after I start it and I rev too high while accellerating my check engine light comes on and the car goes to hell. It won't go past a certain speed in each gear.. and I have to shift really early.. So instead of spending loads of money trying to fix it I've decided to buy a new engine. I was originally going to get the 13B T because I know that it will fit. But if possible I would like to buy the 13B TT from the 3rd Gen RX-7's. Can anyone help me with this problem? It would be much apreciated. Thanks.

why dont you check the codes and see whats wrong with it?

The 13B-REW will fit but takes a lot of work as the motor mounts bolt in to the rear iron. You could do the swap I did which is the 13B-RE out of the Japanese Cosmo. It is a twin turbo motor and is pretty straight forward to install. There are even companies that pre-fab motor mounts to make it bolt right in to your car. You will however need to run a Standalone engine management system for that motor. I have had success getting that engine to run in a S4 Turbo II with a stock computer and wire harness, but it would be beneficial to go ahead with the standalone if you're going to have it all apart anyways.

What's a Cosmo and do you really need to have a Standalone Engine Management system?
|
a cosmo is similar to the fd motor but has smaller exuastr ports, its twin turbo has the largest stock ports and intake runners avalible . and yes you will need a stand alone with any cosmo or fd motor.
|
If I get the Cosmo will I need to get the ECU or wiring harness? Like RE87FC said, he runs without it but would it help if I got them? And I read earlier that you need a TII rear end and driveshaft when you do a TII swap with an NA. Would I need those as well? Or would they not even fit?
|
^ Yes the TII rearend will swap in. To be clear you'll want the drive assembly from the transmission back. You can use an N/A transmission, but it's not going to last very long. I've got a fully rebuilt n/a trans and I'm afraid to use it with a single turbo swap. You may also look into some chromoly axles..

check out this site. 13b-re swap . Its got lots of info on the swap.

Thank you very much everyone for all your help. I'll try and post some pics of my car on the site as soon as I get around to it.
I'm in the same boat you in the "piston knowledge, migrating to rotary" scenario. So we know that 3 key componants are need for ignition: Air; Fuel; Spark. Go through and check your Air filter, spark-plugs, SP wires, In-line fuel filter, and fuel pump pickup. ONE of these will be suspect. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif |
